Chase Daniel breaks down the SB
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAVP...el=ChaseDaniel
This is a tough watch, and Chase loves the Chiefs, but as he goes through it, basically he admits this game was on Pat. Yes, there's times when the protection broke down, but he points out lots of perfectly good pockets where Pat doesn't make the right read, or is looking at the pressure...when there's really not any, or he just pulls the ball down to wide open WR's. He also points out something a LOT of posters here have pointed out. Pat's mechanics have regressed. And it wasn't until this breakdown that I really saw how bad it's gotten. There's times when his body and footwork are just so bad that there's no way he can make an accurate throw. So while we do need a left tackle, the hardest part about this watch is....this was really on Pat. Some of the early RPO play calls were just fine. It was just Pat playing the worst game of his career. Really odd. Just really odd to watch him play this bad, have mechanics this poor, not find the open reads...and Phills NEVER changes their defense the whole game. It was shell coverage the whole time, no blitzes, and just playing zone. Really wild to watch. Last edited by TheGuardian; 02-13-2025 at 09:28 PM.. |

I tried to say this the day after. It was obvious.
I'm not going to pretend I'm some expert on QB mechanics but there were open WR's, plays Pat should have dirted or thrown away, and sacks he didn't have to take. Coaching didn't do him any favors either. We used the quick passing game vs the Texans with success and just didn't seem to much at all once our line started getting abused. Perhaps I missed it but it sure didn't look like we were willing to adapt to the moment.

Thanks for sharing. My take away is just a team wide offensive failure IMO. They had opportunities for big plays but the line couldn't hold up long enough. Kelce whiffed on a couple of blocks. One bad INT from Pat and other was just unfortunate he got hit and he started staring at the protection for parts of the game.

Kelce played like shit. That's exactly what happened. He was supposed to chip and he didn't do shit. He half assed it or he just can't do it. One or the other. And chipping is about effort - not speed. All you have to do is slow the guy down on the way to the QB.
Pat played like shit and nothing will change that. He made mistakes trying to force plays he knew he shouldn't be forcing.

It is going to take a long time for me to want to watch any more than 30 second clips of SB 59 but I will say. A play that sticks out to me was either on the first or second drive. Chiefs had a 3rd and 3 and Pat had Kelce open for the first down and he straight dirted the ball into the ground. That’s when I knew it was going to be a long, long day.
I’ve noticed that 15 has a really bad habit of getting his feet outside of the frame work of his body. When he does that he loses all power and the ball ends up tailing down really bad and that is what happened on that play. |

I’m amazed that someone could watch a video where Chase breaks down how Andy Reid called not one, but two straight plays where TRAVIS KELCE was responsible for blocking Sweat without a hot read (leading to two straight sacks) and conclude “yeah, it’s all Pat’s fault”.
Patrick threw the terrible, backbreaking interception on 3rd down of that drive, BTW. But you’re watching that video with blinders if you’re left with “oh yeah it was 100% on Patrick.” Patrick had a bad game, Andy had a bad game, and the OL had a bad game against a great opponent and we got our asses kicked. It happens. |
