Guys aged 65+ what was it like to be a young man in the 80's?

Something to take my mind off the events of this past weekend....

Older dudes, what was it like to be an adult the 80s?

Was it like printing money?

Did you have a Camaro? A van? A Nissan Pulsar?

Did you try the cocaine?

Did you go to US festival?

Other than the Chiefs being in the abyss, what was it like?

Give us all the good stuff.

I was in my 30s in the 80s and it has some good memories. We were raising two adolescent daughters born in the 70s.

Played darts several nights a week with my buds, a few of them often had the nose candy. Did a few lines, but never bought any. Had two 180s and a 15 dart 501 game that might had been influenced by a line or two.

Bowled a couple nights a week, usually boating on nice weekends at Cheney reservoir.

Started restoring cars in the 80s. First was a 71 El Camino, then the 57 Fury frame off evolving into the car show scene and eventually drag racing, when the cars shows became boring.

Won the pro points track championship in 88, my second year. Being a territory manager for a major auto parts distributor chain helped with those hobbies. I started getting carless and after a couple close calls quit the drag racing after 89 before I made the Mrs. a widow and turned to golf.

I was a Junior at Mizzou in 1980. I was a rock n roll DJ; one of the best known on campus, and had a totally hot tall girlfriend with double Ds (don't tell Mrs B - now she's just a wistful smile that comes to my face as I sit silently while she talks on the IPhone with her sister).

Music was great. New acts like Elvis Costello, the Clash, U2, Petty, Police, Van Halen, AC/DC, etc.

There was no light beer. Coors Banquet was considered "light beer" and if you got Coors on draught it was a real big deal.

There was Cocaine and mushrooms everywhere. I mean everywhere. Lots of Pot too, but pot wasn't a big deal.

Lots of people smoked. I smoked Winstons because that was Fred Flintstone's brand. Heaviest I got was about a half a pack a day. I quit cold turkey when I turned 30.

Reagan was POTUS. There was a lot of bad shit going on globally, and lots of people were out of work. Job prospects out of college weren't that great. I was lucky because I was in Mizzou's J-School, which was the gold standard for Journalism back then.

I drove a 1971 Chevelle with a 307. Had a Pioneer SX receiver and Bose 501 speakers. All the music was on vinyl or cassettes. CDs didn't get real popular until around 1985.

The Chiefs were shit. They only made the playoffs under Mackovic one year and lost to the NY Jets. Royals were great. They lost in the WS to Philadelphia in six games in 1980. Brett got roids right before the first game.

I didn't get married until I was 35 in 1994, so I had a lot of fun in the 1980s.

I was a Freshman at Mizzou in 1983. Was in a fraternity. Drank everyday for four straight years. Went to graduate school in 1987 obsessed with sex. A fun time to be young.

In 1980 I was living in San Antonio, one year out of college and living a great life.

Apt complex was all folks my age, spent all summer playing in a water volleyball league, smoking dope, hitting the C&W bars because two steppin' was all the rage.

Drove a 1970 Corvette and rock n' roll was still going strong.. Right before the big hair band rock came of age.

One other thing I'll add. When you're in your 20s all you want to do is drugs. Now that I'm 65 all I want to do is not have to take drugs. CVS is my dealer.

Drugs should be for recreational purposes only.

If you need them something is wrong.

Music was still music. I was a teenager in the 80's. Movies were better. You actually had to speak to people. Cruising Noland road was actually done by a lot of us.
