One of my other "St. Louis Friends" emailed me tonight. He said he knows what's wrong with the Royals:

According to Posnanski: In the last 11 games the Royals have hit 2 home runs. Both by 39 yr old Miguel Tejada

Mellinger's latest: http://www.kansascity.com/2013/05/27...#storylink=cpy
Highlights: There’s no simple fix here. No easy move to make. The Royals’ skid is the fault of many, and to scapegoat anyone specifically would be unfair and misleading. But to continue with the status quo — pretending or hoping it’ll fix itself — would be delusional. ... The Royals can sit around and hope their luck evens out, or they can show that losing in bunches is no longer acceptable. It won’t be entirely fair to whoever is dumped, but that’s not the point. The point is that something needs to change. |

The "fix" is to fire DM. Now, that's not simple, but that's the ultimate solution to the problem, which many of us have known for several years.

Since May 15, I believe. 3 vs 2. And they have three pitchers who have hit home runs. We have one player on our ENTIRE TEAM who has.

They won't change a goddamn thing until the All Star Break, if then.
They're still ahead of last year's pace by three games. If they lose 89 games this year, they'll stick out their chest and say "PROGRESS!' They could lose 90 and say "Well, we held our ground..." This entire organization has no clue what it takes to win. Nor do they care. You think the Red Sox, or Yanks, or Texas would tolerate this? The Dodgers might whack Donnie Baseball. If they do, maybe we should go grab him and punt Ned. Of course, he chose Trey Hillman as his bench coach, so maybe he's not such a smart guy after all. |

I don't really hold Dayton to the expectations of large payroll teams. But I do think he should be compared to peer clubs and after 7 years its clear he can't ever out do any of them either.

Several years ago when I was still blogging the Royals on a daily basis, I decided to root for "visitor," and made that my team record. I called the team the "Kansas City Kanchos." The Kanchos won over 100 games and won the AL Central by more than ten games.
"Kancho" is a Japanese term. It's Japanese slang for "finger enema" and is also called "a thousand years of pain." In short, the perfect nickname for your Kansas City Royals. So looks like Royals fans are getting "Kancho'ed" again this year. Bend over, Royals Fans. Time for the Kancho! http://www.kancho.org/ |
