"I have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for Romeo, both personally and professionally," Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said. "He is an accomplished coach, a man of great character and he helped guide our football team through some extremely challenging circumstances this season.

"However, I am embarrassed by the poor product we gave our fans this season, and I believe we have no choice but to move the franchise in a different direction. I will immediately begin the search for the next head coach of the Chiefs. The entire football operation will remain under review, and there may be additional changes to come. No final determination has been made at this point on the future of General Manager Scott Pioli.

"Finally, I want to personally apologize to our fans for our performance this season. We are blessed to play for some of the best and most passionate fans in the National Football League and they deserve better than what we gave them this season. I want our fans to know that I will do everything I can to provide them with a dramatically better team - both next season and in the seasons to come - and our entire organization appreciates their support."

That's why hiring a guy like Arians seems like a good idea. Fresh meat.

We won't find the next Cowher/Billick/Gruden/Reid until there is actually another one of those guys. For that to happen, new coaches need to be introduced.

So why not Arians? God knows we are ****ing due for a flamethrower first time coach around these parts.

He's probably out of sons that are likely to overdose in the team barracks as well, so we may not have to worry about those distractions...

So much baggage. So very much baggage. I'd love Andy Reid with his head screwed on straight, but I just don't see how that's the Andy Reid you're going to get.

Its more because hes 57 games ocer .500, brings an attitude, and comes from a great organization.

Well it's either one corner or the other. Does it really matter? It's not like NFL front offices are abstract.

We've been sitting in the other corner for years, now Clark wants to see what the opposite corner feels like.

IMO, i think Clark is trying to be a bit more creative. He tried the "hottest GM available" approach and look where that got him.

Now he's going to get away from his comfort zone and do the exact opposite.

Good for him.

Wrong. We're talking about him because he's a proven HC who has had personnel experience and been successful with it, and this is the model that Hunt has said he's going to follow.

Now, when he hires that **** from Iowa, it will all be moot and we can safely return to hating Pioli, who will still be here.

We can regurgitate all of our best Belcher material, so there's that, too.

Reid strikes me as someone who needs a short break, but he's definitely a talented coach.

Half the people who watch the Chiefs don't even have any recollection of Cowher being a Chief.

Gotta remember OTWP, not all of us have been fans for 33+ years. Hell, I aint even 33 years old.
