"I have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for Romeo, both personally and professionally," Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said. "He is an accomplished coach, a man of great character and he helped guide our football team through some extremely challenging circumstances this season.

"However, I am embarrassed by the poor product we gave our fans this season, and I believe we have no choice but to move the franchise in a different direction. I will immediately begin the search for the next head coach of the Chiefs. The entire football operation will remain under review, and there may be additional changes to come. No final determination has been made at this point on the future of General Manager Scott Pioli.

"Finally, I want to personally apologize to our fans for our performance this season. We are blessed to play for some of the best and most passionate fans in the National Football League and they deserve better than what we gave them this season. I want our fans to know that I will do everything I can to provide them with a dramatically better team - both next season and in the seasons to come - and our entire organization appreciates their support."

Then why are Cowher's overall record, playoff record, and offenses better than Billick's when they were competing in the same division during the same period?

It seems to me that if we're changing the philosophy from:

Owner > GM > HC to.... Owner > HC=>GM...

Then you need a big name who's going to be here for awhile.

Chip Kelly fits that bill, and can pick and choose front office people to build his team. He has high football IQ, is a big name that will sell ST commitments, and honestly has some nice weapons, a lot of cap space, and a #1 draft pick to build on.

I think Reid has adjusted his offensive scheme plenty to fit the talent in Philly.

Patrick Ramsey.

They moved up to 20 to choose between Kyle Boller and Rex Grossman.

Pittsburgh happened to be picking high in one of the best Top 3 QB drafts in recent memory.

Had they been picking later, Cowher likely never wins a SB.

So why are you holding that against Cowher? Who cares how he got the QB, all that matters is that he recognized his need for one, identified the one he wanted and drafted him.

It's not like it was some Belichick/Brady situation.

Ok so Billick didn't draft any of the guys previously listed (because they're good) that was Newsome. But when it comes to the busts, it was all Billick.

How many Super Bowls did Cowher win while playing in that same division while Billick was there?

Shove your eyeroll, ****o. I've loudly supported Cowher and said in this thread that Cowher would be my preference. Reid shouldn't have any job this season. He's going to bring so much baggage with him that he needs a year away to recharge and get back. I think Reid's buried in his own head right now and is going to struggle to get focus back, but otherwise I think he'd be a nice fit.

Beyond that, who would you have taken instead of Boller? Look at the drafts in the 3 seasons or so from 2002 to 2004 when the Ravens would've needed to take one and show me the surefire stud that the Ravens should've grabbed.

Boller was a completely defensible pick at the time that didn't work and got benched after 3 years. I still don't see why this is the rope we're using to hang Brian Billick.

That's crazy. I've had that thought of just how out of touch Clark potentially is and what the fallout would be if he ever did get a clue as to how the fan base feels.

It's turning out pretty much exactly how I envisioned it might. Clark looking suprised and pissed at just how far his team has fallen.

I would be happy with Reid as long as he recognized you have a great runningback to use at your disposal. You don't have to throw it every play... this isn't Philly. Outside of that, he is a very good coach.

I'm not as afraid of retred as others. I would be fine with guys like Reid, Holmgren, Billick, Gruden, etc. Put me in the camp that is scared of unknowns. Unless the incoming new head coach is a highly successful college coach, I get gun shy from coordinators (for sure young) that haven't proven anything yet. Not for a rebuilding job and only if we were already highly successful with a locker room full of quality vets to police themselves.
