"I have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for Romeo, both personally and professionally," Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said. "He is an accomplished coach, a man of great character and he helped guide our football team through some extremely challenging circumstances this season.

"However, I am embarrassed by the poor product we gave our fans this season, and I believe we have no choice but to move the franchise in a different direction. I will immediately begin the search for the next head coach of the Chiefs. The entire football operation will remain under review, and there may be additional changes to come. No final determination has been made at this point on the future of General Manager Scott Pioli.

"Finally, I want to personally apologize to our fans for our performance this season. We are blessed to play for some of the best and most passionate fans in the National Football League and they deserve better than what we gave them this season. I want our fans to know that I will do everything I can to provide them with a dramatically better team - both next season and in the seasons to come - and our entire organization appreciates their support."

Billick WON a Super Bowl with a bad QB, and never fell ass-backwards into one like Cowher did Roethlisberger. Billick also didn't get an extra 8 years to trip over said QB.

Go back and look at the drafts where Baltimore was picking high. What QB did Billick and Newsome pass on?

If Bill Cowher didn't have a history in KC, people would be arguing that he accomplished nothing until Roethlisberger fell into his lap.

If this were 1997, I'd be all over Cowher.

If this is going to be the argument, fine. This is more plausible and acceptable than pointing to his prolific offenses in MN, while excusing his mediocre ones in Baltimore. Not saying you're doing this.

I actually did point out his prolific offenses in Minnesota. But not because I think he's some kind of offensive guru.

The guy is an effective manager, understands both sides of the football, and most importantly, has shown that he can take ANYTHING you give him and win with it.

He's the only guy on "the list" that doesn't have a pigeon hole. Cowher is a 3-4 zone blitz guy, Reid is WCO. I want a coach who will recognize and acquire TALENT and adjust the scheme to fit, not the other way around.

Billick saw Grbac throwing those pretty deep passes off play-action in KC and thought he could upgrade on Dilfer to perhaps re-create those deep tandems he had in Minn. with Cunningham chucking it deep to Moss. Grbac, for everything he did poorly, did have a nice deep ball.

With a SB caliber defense, the needed someone under center and couldn't try to do the late round, draft/develop thing for even a single year. They needed a QB and they needed one immediately for the 2003 season.

So they used a 1st rounder on a guy that many did believe was the most talented QB in the draft that year. And they had to give him his 3 years to develop. And let's be honest - Boller was the only defensible QB choice there; everyone after him was utter shit.

Elvis Grbac's cowardice is the disaster the undid Brian Billick. That and desperation born of the wasted 2002 after the Grbac debacle.

Then the guy was poor at doing his due diligence because he should have been able to clearly see the flaws that Elvis had if he had done his research.

Then, he moved on from him to drafting Boller in the first round...

Yeah, definitely better than Bill Cowher or Andy Reid...

How exactly did he "fall" into his lap. You make it seem like Ruthlesraper was just dumb luck. It's been stated numerous times that he was the guy Cowher wanted all along.

In that era, you had to be drafting high or willing to mortgage your future to move up.

When Baltimore was picking high, who did they have access to?

Chad Pennington.

Patrick Ramsey.

They moved up to 20 to choose between Kyle Boller and Rex Grossman.

Pittsburgh happened to be picking high in one of the best Top 3 QB drafts in recent memory.

Had they been picking later, Cowher likely never wins a SB.
