Clark Hunt Statement

"I have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for Romeo, both personally and professionally," Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said. "He is an accomplished coach, a man of great character and he helped guide our football team through some extremely challenging circumstances this season.

"However, I am embarrassed by the poor product we gave our fans this season, and I believe we have no choice but to move the franchise in a different direction. I will immediately begin the search for the next head coach of the Chiefs. The entire football operation will remain under review, and there may be additional changes to come. No final determination has been made at this point on the future of General Manager Scott Pioli.

"Finally, I want to personally apologize to our fans for our performance this season. We are blessed to play for some of the best and most passionate fans in the National Football League and they deserve better than what we gave them this season. I want our fans to know that I will do everything I can to provide them with a dramatically better team - both next season and in the seasons to come - and our entire organization appreciates their support."

if you take away Super Bowls on the resume, I think Andy Reid shits all over Cowher and Billick

better QB development, drafts better talent, better production, etc. Defense is shaky but that has been a mess the last couple years, pair him with a top of the line DC and ??? and I'd like to think our defense has way better pieces in place than the Eagles did to carry an Andy Reid led team. After 10 years with a team, Andy Reid had a lot of players get old on that defense and leave over years. (Dawkins, Vincent, Trotter, Douglas, Mike Mamula (kidding), etc) and just lost touch

I think Clark is seriously keeping Pioli but only to work the financial side of things and nothing more. Personally I don't care if Pioli sticks around as long as he has nothing to do with players and coaches. If he is kept just to get contracts signed and what not then ok.

Billick? No ****ing thanks. I'm not saying he'd be a disaster, but he'd certainly be nothing more than perpetuating mediocrity.

Anyone who argues for Billick but against Cowher is being grossly contradictory in my view.

I've argued strongly in favor of Cowher and I'll argue in favor of Billick as well.

He is, at his core, an offensive-minded HC. And he's also just the kind of '**** you, we're winning this game' style of HC that I love. He's Marty's heart/attitude but with an actual gamblers streak offensively. He'd bring back the fire and passion that made the Chiefs defense great in the mid-90s but would also bring that offensive creativity that fueled the Vikings and (here and there) made the Ravens offense look good.

Billick isn't just Marty mediocrity. He's absolutely everything you'd want in a HC if you didn't see him stumble towards the end in Baltimore. Well, Coglans law applies there, does it not? Everything ends badly...otherwise it wouldn't end. Every coach eventually runs out of steam; happens to all but the greatest of the great. Billick stumbled and lost his job - that doesn't mean that the things that happened before the stumble didn't happen.

His resume shows he was creative enough offensively to lead the most prolific offense in NFL history (1 missed FG away from a SB). It also shows that he was a good enough HC to completely shift gears and create a SB winner around a great defense and a game manager. His resume prior to that and his statements after it do not suggest this is his preferred route, but it's one he will take if he has to and be somewhat successful at it.

I think I really like the Billick idea.

Which means it will never happen. The Chiefs don't hate everyone...but they sure seem to hate me.

I can't give billick credit for the 1998 minnesota vikings. After that great offensive season, billick went on to lead some of the most craptastic offenses ever, headed by kyle boller and trent dildofer.

Randy Moss, also a member of that 1998 vikings offense, went on to be a part of several more of the best offenses in the history of the league.... hmm...
