"I have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for Romeo, both personally and professionally," Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said. "He is an accomplished coach, a man of great character and he helped guide our football team through some extremely challenging circumstances this season.

"However, I am embarrassed by the poor product we gave our fans this season, and I believe we have no choice but to move the franchise in a different direction. I will immediately begin the search for the next head coach of the Chiefs. The entire football operation will remain under review, and there may be additional changes to come. No final determination has been made at this point on the future of General Manager Scott Pioli.

"Finally, I want to personally apologize to our fans for our performance this season. We are blessed to play for some of the best and most passionate fans in the National Football League and they deserve better than what we gave them this season. I want our fans to know that I will do everything I can to provide them with a dramatically better team - both next season and in the seasons to come - and our entire organization appreciates their support."

If they don't fire Pioli, feel free to not go to the games. I know I won't in that case.

However, its not reasonable at all to say this means Pioli is staying and they are trying to finesse it.

If the Chiefs were 100%, for sure, hell-bent on keeping Pioli, they would probably go dark. They'd ignore all the criticism and the questions, not respond to anyone for any reason, and hope that a new coach and the passage of time will make people forget about it by September.

If you are Hunt and you were for sure keeping Pioli, this statement isn't really smart. By saying "I might fire him" and then later deciding to keep him, you've just kept the talk and the SOC outrage going.

I don't know that we are classless but in some fairness he was forced to play Cassel when he wanted Orton, he was handed Daboll when that isn't who he wanted and it was his 1st year.

Normally in that situation most people would say it crazy to fire a coach after 1 year.

You hired him to do all personnel stuff ont he football side, yet he isn't allowed to do that? Why keep him on staff?

Clark should have been working on the buyout for months.

And if you really, truly are embarrassed by the last four years, you fire him regardless.

Woody Johnson wasted no time in firing a guy that is responsible for a .500 plus record over 7 years and two AFC Championship appearances. He either got a head start on Tannenbaum's buyout language, or just doesn't give a **** about the money.

We're dragging our feet over a guy that has literally destroyed the franchise.
