Clark Hunt Statement
"I have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for Romeo, both personally and professionally," Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said. "He is an accomplished coach, a man of great character and he helped guide our football team through some extremely challenging circumstances this season.

"However, I am embarrassed by the poor product we gave our fans this season, and I believe we have no choice but to move the franchise in a different direction. I will immediately begin the search for the next head coach of the Chiefs. The entire football operation will remain under review, and there may be additional changes to come. No final determination has been made at this point on the future of General Manager Scott Pioli.

"Finally, I want to personally apologize to our fans for our performance this season. We are blessed to play for some of the best and most passionate fans in the National Football League and they deserve better than what we gave them this season. I want our fans to know that I will do everything I can to provide them with a dramatically better team - both next season and in the seasons to come - and our entire organization appreciates their support."

Clark wants to sell tickets. Cowher and Gruden are the two guys who will sell tickets.

Reid probably won't sell tickets, but would give instant credibility to the team.

Not as sure about Lovie Smith.

So, if Pioli was fired this weekend instead of yesterday, that wouldn't change things at all? You'd still be enraged that he wasn't fired right away? Don't be silly.

The reason why people were itching to see Pioli fired is because if he wasn't fired right away, that increases the likelihood that he'll be kept around.

Well, with this statement, things have changed. Hunt flat-out said Pioli might not be here next season. Given that, its not stupid at all to say "OK, I'll hold off and keep the powder dry until you fire him or announce he's staying". We'll all know before money has to be paid to renew season tickets.

There's only about 3 or 4 people that are preaching patience and one of them is me.

I have been preaching patience for well over a month, so if your comments are directed at me, you're completely off-base.

I've never had a timeline for wanting him fired.

Petro kept repeating the part of Clark's release where he said "I" will begin searching for a new coach immediately. Why would "he" be the one looking for a coach, and not include the GM in that statement, if the GM in question were truly still employed here?

I really thing Jayhawk Chief nailed it: Pioli is going through the legal side of his buyout, and Clark doesn't want to comment on it right now, in th emiddle of it. It just sounds logical.
