Clark Hunt Statement

"I have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for Romeo, both personally and professionally," Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said. "He is an accomplished coach, a man of great character and he helped guide our football team through some extremely challenging circumstances this season.

"However, I am embarrassed by the poor product we gave our fans this season, and I believe we have no choice but to move the franchise in a different direction. I will immediately begin the search for the next head coach of the Chiefs. The entire football operation will remain under review, and there may be additional changes to come. No final determination has been made at this point on the future of General Manager Scott Pioli.

"Finally, I want to personally apologize to our fans for our performance this season. We are blessed to play for some of the best and most passionate fans in the National Football League and they deserve better than what we gave them this season. I want our fans to know that I will do everything I can to provide them with a dramatically better team - both next season and in the seasons to come - and our entire organization appreciates their support."

Again, agreed.

But as I said, from Clark's standpoint he wants to see if Manning was an anomaly.

You and I and everybody else here knows the answer to that. But Clark, I guess, needs to hear it himself.

From what we've heard and what I've heard, I think Clark likely has his next HC already lined up.

So I just don't see what the point of this is at this time?

Clark didn't drag his feet 4 years ago. He went out and hired the biggest name, the three time executive of the year, the executive of the decade. Herm didn't interfere in that.

Pioli is the one who could have immediately fired Herm but kept him around until Haley became available.

This will affect nothing unless Clark's ultimate plan is to force Pioli on whoever he hires, which doesn't sound like it's what he is doing.

He needs to make a decision on the coach quickly though, because if that's the direction he's going in, the new coach will need to be in place quickly before other personnel jobs get filled in case that's who the new coach wants.

Keeping Pioli around in the short term makes no difference as long as Hunt is making it clear he's not part of the terms of taking the job...

If Clark is able to convince Cowher to come back, which I don't see happening, he'll probably want Omar Kahn as GM. He's a non-personnel guy from the Steelers organization.

Kahn might be a good GM for whoever the full-control head coach is going to be.

You know what would be kind of cool?

If Pioli got stuffed in a closet while someone else runs the team.

Make the dipshit earn his buyout in Arrowhead prison.

And if he doesn't like it, he can quit.

Hey, look at the bright side.
The Chiefs may still employ Fat Scott, but he may have been demoted to the janitorial staff. Given his penchant for tidiness in the stairwells, etc.

So if he wants to see if Manning wasn't an anomaly, wouldn't the fact that 2 or 3 big name HC guys have already said no and Pioli already presented the usual shitty suspects as HC's?

I guess like I said previously, i'm just not seeing the point in this, unless it's to further smear Pioli's rep by all this, which I would be ok with.

To me, this means that Hunt wants an older, experienced, substantial coach. There's no way he'd sit down with a younger coach to talk about the GM, an inexperienced coach waiting for his break would say yes to anything and not offer up any useful insight.

Maybe Clark is waiting until Friday to fire Pioli. Statistics show that there's less chance of an incident that way.

I'm guessing Clark's not eyeing an assistant in the playoffs he has to wait on.
