"I have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for Romeo, both personally and professionally," Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said. "He is an accomplished coach, a man of great character and he helped guide our football team through some extremely challenging circumstances this season.

"However, I am embarrassed by the poor product we gave our fans this season, and I believe we have no choice but to move the franchise in a different direction. I will immediately begin the search for the next head coach of the Chiefs. The entire football operation will remain under review, and there may be additional changes to come. No final determination has been made at this point on the future of General Manager Scott Pioli.

"Finally, I want to personally apologize to our fans for our performance this season. We are blessed to play for some of the best and most passionate fans in the National Football League and they deserve better than what we gave them this season. I want our fans to know that I will do everything I can to provide them with a dramatically better team - both next season and in the seasons to come - and our entire organization appreciates their support."

No chance of a resignation. I can see a possible buyout, but Pioli isn't going to pull a Gil Meche and leave a shit ton of money on the table.

But I'm with Parker on this. Whichever way it happens, so long as it happens.

And it shouldn't take weeks to determine if Pioli is radioactive. A few phone calls over a day or two that result in "Hell, no, I won't work with Pioli under ANY situation" should seal the deal.

What Clark's doing isn't unusual aside from the aspect that he shit canned Romeo and hasn't fire Pioli yet.

You can't keep Pioli on even as a business guy. He's destroyed the workplace environment. Most importantly to me, he's destroyed the involvement of the team in the community. I want to see players working their charities again. I want to see murals draped in the stadium again. Until Pioli is gone, it looks like Clark doesn't give a shit about us, the people of KC.

Thankfully, this statement does seem to doom Pioli. But every day spent with Scott still having his job with the Chiefs does PR damage, IMO. What are they going to do, wait until mid-January to send season ticket renewals out? February? This had better be some complicated money stuff that causing the hold-up, because every day this grows more sour.

Clark Hunt is out of touch with the environment of Arrowhead and the feelings of his fan base.
