With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:

Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

This fanbase kills me. We beg for these things, and then they happen and we're pissed. Pioli has jaded this town with the Cassel trade. If the Royals make the playoffs, Wil Myers will be the furthest thing from everyone's mind. Guys, our payroll is now 80+ million.

Its hard to imagine getting the better of the Rays on this kind of trade, but **** it. This next Royals season should be the most entertaining in a long while, and I'm going to let myself enjoy it.

Royals fans are mostly morons. They would rather believe they are 2 years away from competing every year, then actually take a chance to win in any year. I am and always have been a Royals fan, but the fanbase as a whole is pathetic. If both Shields and Myers do well, it's still a good trade for the Royals.

Guthrie

You do realize you would have to over-pay Sanchez and Jackson to want to come to KC right? The Royals are not a destination.

This is true. There's also no guarantee KC would have been able to get Jackson and Sanchez for the dollars available. And there is a pretty sizable difference between 2011-12 James Shields and Jackson/Sanchez in terms of performance and reliability.

I'm still very disappointed in this trade. I will still root for the royals, but I don't know how we can continuue to trot frenchy out there everyday. Locain should be the number two hitter, imo. Gordon/locain/hosmer/butler/moose/perez. It still woulda been a lot more palatable with myers in there.

Despite trading away Myers, this is still the best team we will have had in quite a long time. I don't like the way they went about it because they could have achieved similar if not better results and retained Myers but I am still going to be excited about it. At the end of the season Glass promised we would get pitching and we did.

You really think the Royals would put up the 6 yrs for $100 million that Sanchez would be asking for to sign with the Royals? And also, 2 yrs for $25 million for E-Jax? Are you crazy?

They are paying more than that per year for Shields, Hoch, , Santana, and Frenchy.

I am happy and sad. If we make the playoffs then it is worth it.

But odds are still against us. Hopefully shields will be happy to play and keeps up his game here.

Now to see about getting rid of frenchy.

And I am one of the few, but I like getz. Just needs to stay healthy.
