With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:



Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

If by "frontline starter" you mean Jair Jurrjens, then I say yes.

If by "someone" you mean anyone, even Jair Jurrjens, then I say yes.

While Royals fans don't care enough to fly banners over the stadium, I would suspect that even DM is smart enough to be aware that fans would at least release a few balloons with nasty messages if he'd trade Myers.

You had no added insight into Travis Snider or his failings that nobody else in prospect world did. Nor did you have any idea just how mentally fragile and full of self-doubt he was (which seems to be the biggest reason among many for his failings so far). I've been wrong about many prospects before, though, and I will again. It's an inexact science and it's exactly the reason why you shouldn't get overly attached to them when talking trade for legitimate MLB players.

Go ahead and chalk it up to some nebulous crap like human frailty if you want, but at the time I said he had no earthly idea where the strike zone was and history shows us that very few players ever just find it.

You were ignoring a fundamental flaw in his game because you were a homer. It's no big deal, everyone does it. But don't sit here and act like it took a psychiatrist to figure out why he'd fail. All you needed to have was an open mind and some understanding of history. Guys that can't find the strikezone rarely locate it.

Snider wasn't even a prospect when the Greinke trade was being discussed, so making any statements about Myers based on that scenario is off-base. Additionally, we don't need even more evidence to confirm that TINSTAAPP. I wanted no part of Drabek then because of his injury history, and I was right.

Yes. This is where the analysts go off the deep end. If you close your eyes, pretend that you don't have common sense, then think about major injury real hard while counting backwards from ten, it seems like a fine thing!

OK, #Royals fans, just got off the phone with club officials who say they gave me bad info; $70 million payroll is for 40-man roster but... ..it doesn't include the signing bonus budgets for the draft and international signings. Am correcting story.

Eh, Tommy John surgery shouldn't really worry you guys that much, especially with a young pitcher.

Get a guy into his late 20s/early 30s and his velocity may not come back all the way. But a kid in his early 20s, 90% of them come back as good as new these days.

If you hear 'shoulder', run away screaming. Shoulder injuries are the debil. If you're lucky, you don't need to have surgery and the rest/rehab model buys you a couple more years (before whatever mechanics you had that caused the problem eventually blow it out entirely). Most guys can't get by with the rest/rehab, they have to have 'cleanup' surgery and they come back throwing 3/4 mph less than they were when they left.

The very rare occurrence comes back completely healthy (Chris Carpenter is the most notable recent example I can come up with) but for the most part, a shoulder diagnosis is about a worst case scenario.

At least the Royals don't appear to have anything that bad floating around.
