With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:



Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

Hosmer's actually been pretty good in August, with a .296 average and OPS over .800.

But, here's something weird. In my article, I noticed Moustakas hits poorly in low leverage situations. Same with Hosmer. Hoz only hits .199 with the pressure off, and .278 and .308 in medium and high leverage situations.

Wow, looks like those young guys lose focus when the pressure's off. Maybe they lose their mental edge when up or down a lot of runs.

I don't know if its false hope, we have for once an actual lineup that is pretty much set with young guys. They are starting to play better as the season progresses thats a good thing. Get at least two legit starting pitchers for next season and we should do fine.

No matter what we do in the last 2 months, I don't think any fans will expect to win next year. Same story every year, and this was supposed to be the year we broke through.

I'm afraid the few Royals fans who still had optimism will need legit proof before regaining hope.

I will have hope for next season if the Royals acquire two legitimate starting pitchers before the start of next season (this would be in addition to retaining Jeremy Guthrie).

I will have hope for next season if the Royals bring Wil Myers up from Day 1.

I will have hope for next season if Dayton Moore admits he made a mistake with Jeff Francoeur and finds a way to move him (even if it means they get a nothing prospect back and nothing else).

I don't think it's a showcase. I think it's an attempt to make the roster more flexible moving forward.

It wouldn't be bad to be able to slide Myers down to 3B on nights they face a tough lefty, to give Moustakas a break.

I'll take anything that gets Myers bat in the lineup on a consistent basis (I'm assuming they'll be stuck with one more year of Francoeur).

It was the 12 game losing streak to start the year, in which they played decent - just the breaks weren't falling for them. If they could have went .500 during that stretch, we have a .500 team right now heading to Labor Day even with the shit starting pitching.
