A better, more accurate 2012 Slogan: It is Finally Next Year

With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:

Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

Agreed, looks like a decent get for Broxton if it happens. Advanced SP with decent upside. Probably not an ace, but most likely not too far behind Odorizzi.

I'm not in favor of any change at manager until DM is fired. Yost is fine. Placates to "The Process," covers for players, manages the media, etc.

I'm firmly on the DM has to go line of thinking, but really, does it even matter as long as Glass is still the Owner? Let's face it, the apathy and lack of focus starts at the ownership level for this Organization. So, in my mind, until Glass sells the Team, we are going to see various shades of crap on the field, no matter who the GM or Manager.

That's my concern when evaluating DM. Perhaps he's had opportunities to trade prospects for established pitching, but he's been veto'd by ownership. When you've had several GM/managers and maintained the same losing culture, it has to go higher than that.

I would love and hate that at the same time. Frank is my all time favorite Royal. It would suck to see him lose games because GMDM makes bad moves, forces him to play certain people, and won't call up the guys who are ready along with Glass who won't spend the money necessary to win.

I don't want anything to taint my love of all things Frank White.

However, he deserves a shot. At the very least put him back in the TV booth.

This season was all about putting on a nice show for the All Star Game. That's it. That's done, they're playing out the string now. Season was over in KC once the ASG was played. Losing is part of the corporate culture with the Royals. It's comfortable, it's familiar, its expected, and nobody is pressuring them to change anything. We lost last year. We're losing this year. We'll lose again next year. As long as they make money, it is what it is. It's nothing personal, it's just business, Royals Fans. Hey, we'll win in 2014 or 2015, we promise. Yep. Just two or three more years, honest.

Why?

Frank White has had a lot of shots in baseball. He got a go as a manager for a while and was only mildly successful. He's been in other organizations, and not gotten a shot.

I realize the guy was a great Royal and a lot of Royals fans love him. Heck, I love what the guy did and what he means to the org, and I barely saw him play.

But that doesn't change the fact he was a mediocre - at best - coach/manager and broadcaster. And I have heard from enough people now that he is a giant pain in the ass behind the scenes to believe it.

White got a shot as a coach with the Red Sox, too, and didn't wow anybody over there. There is really no evidence to suggest he'd be a good big league manager.
