With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:



Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

If you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

What he's saying is that the Royals are going to have to pay because we do not have enough internal pitching options, prior to winning. To which I say, we should be. We should make a commitment to THIS five year window.

Royals MUST sign 2 starters. This window needs to start next year, period. If trades for a stud pitcher is possible do it, just don't trade Myers and Zimmer. Everyone else should be ready to be dealt in the minors otherwise

And there's just no way that's going to happen. Glass has proven he's not willing to invest, hoping the revenue catches up. He's going to continue to manage the team with financial prudence (purely from a business standpoint). He has no real interest in really "going for the win". He'll make his money, hope his team catches lightning in a bottle, and continue to remove himself from any day to day criticism by living elsewhere. Smart businessman; asshole owner. I'm preaching to the choir, I know.

The other thing the Royals could do is pick up a one-year deal on a pitcher trying to earn a bigger pay-day. We will have TWO adequate/above-average coming back from TJ in 2014.

They're not going to sign one of Hamels/Greinke, let alone both of them.

Hamels is a money/fit issue.

With Greinke, they COULD offer him what he wants, but I don't think they trust him for the type of commitment that he'd require.

The Royals have to make a few moves, acquire a few starters (2 legit, 1 lotto ticket). But it's not a "Greinke and Hamels or nothing" proposition.

Not the time of year to do serious team building. There's too many teams in pennant races that will get the pitching they need first. Royals aren't one of those teams

If there is a new pitcher it will be a wing and a prayer type, Sanchez. A true bottom of the barrel fringe major league #5 starter, forget about an ace, or even a 3 guys. It will be a #5 (at best) starter.

This is possible, but it would be contrary to what they've been telling the media.

Would be incredibly disappointing and just another nail in the coffin for this leadership.

If this ends up being the case--and there's no evidence to this point to suggest that it won't--anyone would be a fool to have any emotional investment in the team or organization.

Go the games if you want. Hit one out at the Lil' K. Drink an $8 Bud Light, but don't for one minute bitch about the product. No reason to. It's been shit. It will be shit in the present and long into the future.

Furthermore, I will recant a lot of the criticism I've lobbed at DM. Glass will prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that winning in KC, under his ownership, is next to impossible.

This ****ing bullshit. The Oakland A's and their $55MM payroll are 1/2 game back of the Angels. Why is it that the A's can be successful with $55MM and we can't find our ass with either hand at $60MM? Answer: our GM is a ****ing reerun and our Owner doesnt give a **** about the Team.
