Directv refund credit after paying for HD DVR upgrade
there was another thread about a guy paying for upgrading to HD on directv and getting locked into a 2-year deal.

I had something similar so i called directv today:

1. when recording asked for "why are you calling .." hit zero on phone key about of times and trigger it to go to human being

2. immediate ask for customer retention

3. Be nice and polite, but firm ... talk about how you've been a customer for a long time and just want whats fair etc,etc

4. Directv is current running a promotion 'FOR EXISTING CUSTOMERS" called a loyalty customer free upgrade to HD, free installation. Save $199 dollars.

5. currently the top 3 directv packages include free NFL sunday ticket. So if you have one of the top 3 type packages you can also bring up how you should get free sunday ticket. EXTRA Choice package and above, i think.

Anyway ... i just got a 400 dollar credit to my account for the 2 HD DVR's i paid for and got sunday ticket add to my account for free.

If you paid for HD installation or Dish i would add that in too.

If you have a Tivo brand DVR you also don't get full access to On Demand and Cinema shows. There is a 10 dollar extra service charge for Tivo ... so you are actually paying more, but getting less. You can throw that onto the fire of your customer service issues and have them note that to the higher ups.

No it's reeruned, we don't even watch much tv. But 2 of them are in the mother-in-law house, one is on the patio and one is in the garage so it isn't as bad as it sounds.

well after several phone calls i'm still not getting my full refund but i'm getting a credit for services.

free HD service for a year (10 dollars a month = 120)
216 dollars - 1 time credit to account
= 336

not quite 400 but still better than it could of turned out

no, i paid full price for upgrading DVR's to HD while they were handing them out for free to new customers and giving a 'loyalty customer free upgrade' to existing customers.

Did the same deal, mostly....complained about 2nd year increase and DVR-service B.S. "fee"....was offered $10 "rebate" per month for a year, and $8 off the NFL "premium" package....meaning I'll save $18 per month for the next 6 months, and another $10 per month for the duration of the contract.

All because I called and was reasonably "polite," but firm...intimating I plan to switch next summer. Just sayin'.

EDIT: Total deal, one-step below the top for their package deals....with NFL package, for about $70 month for the next year. About $300 in savings, had I not whined.

I just called. They say you get a good deal towards the end of their shift and they close here soon. I explained how my girlfriend was mad about the prices we pay compared to cable prices as they have more channels, close to the amount of HD channels, same movie channels, free installation, and the fact we aren't locked into a contract we should shop around. They gave me $30 off my bill for a year and $10 off Sunday Ticket. Good enough for me.
