A better, more accurate 2012 Slogan: It is Finally Next Year

An alternative slogan if you don't like that one: Someone has to win this crappy division

With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:



Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

Oh I agree! I'm not arguing that point at all. I like the trade, what we got, and the possibilities for the future...

I'm not ready to say "KC got the better end of that by a longshot" like is championed around here. I think people are just excited because its a trade that wasn't completely one-sided against us for a change.

If Grienke seemed like a grounded player able to put together 7 years of non-crazy I would expect alot more out of what we got in return, but for me the problem is grienke is there is always a chance he is going to do something crazy and quit baseball for good.

It was and is a complete win. I don't think this point can be argued, at all. Every day shortstop hitting over .300 with excellent defense. How many shortstops are playing better than Escobar right now? Yet alone in a few years time. That alone makes the trade a win for us. Odo and Cain are just the icing on the cake. It isn't like you can expect to get that without giving up nothing. Milwaukee gave up three of their best prospects for Greinke on a 1.5 year rental.

Go back a few pages and see what Duncan posted about what other teams got for Ace pitchers they traded. There is nothing worth even taking a second look at.

Well, Greinke's wife was really hot, and we lost her being around. But I understand (from a buddy of mine who is a TSA agent at KCI) that Escobar's girlfriend is really hot, so I guess that's an even up trade.

Just think the Brewers gave up Brett Lawrie, Alcides Escobar, Lorenzo Cain and Odo for Shaun Marcum and Zack Greinke, and they might not have either next season.

If Moore somehow re-signed Grienky while keeping Cain and Escpbar I would almost excuse him for the Sanchez trade.
