With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:



Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

No idea why people think Montgomery should be iin this starting rotation. You think the rotation can't get worse? It would if you bring him up. You think Sanchez walks ppl, Monty would walk even more. I get wanting Odorizzi but Monty hasn't proven anything at all, he has proven he probably doesn't even deserve to be in AAA. I'd like to see Teaford up instead of anybody, option Crow to AA or AAA to start work as a SP. Would want to see Myers dominate for more than a half a season after his bigtime struggles last year

Even if you bring them both up and any other minor league arms you want this team still does not have the SP to compete. Have to acquire it somehow ASAP....LDO....would think trading Monty while hes sstill a prospect in some minds for Max value is a good idea

It was scrapped about the time Soria's elbow went kablooey.

Whether that's because they decided they needed him in the pen (because they saw the way the SP was going to break down) or because he still can't throw a reliable third pitch that allows him to get through an order multiple times, I don't know.

His fastball plays down as a starting, from sitting at 95 to sitting at 92-93. He has enough movement that it should still be above-average (but not PLUS like it is out of the pen).

His slider would play the same.

The question is whether his curve/change are good enough weapons to make him a starter. They should be, but for whatever reason, they weren't and haven't been yet.

Dayton will undoubtedly go after someone like Carl Pavano for him... since we're so desperate for any type of pitching just to complete the year...

I guess just opening up the way for Meyers to get up here quickly is good enough for me.

Still a month until the trade deadline. Teams will wait on us thinking that we will fall further out of the race and then they will try to really take Frenchy and Broxton from us for really cheap.

Discussions on 810 (Petro) about injury concerns to bullpen arms because of high number of innings. In particular, Petro was advocating trading Collins.

Small dude who is logging lots of innings and whose trade value will never be higher. Not a bad idea.

Frenchy isn't worth a bag of ball, honestly. Statistically, he's below replacement level thus far this year.

yes, except trading Collins means get rid of another of our better players.

we probably screw up the trade and end up with Sanchez part II

then we can lose Gordon,Hoz,Butler and Moose for money reason and then we can be back to full suck ass mode.
