With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:



Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

Francisley Bueno is in an odd situation. He was thrown out of the only MLB game he ever pitched.

In August 2008 he was called up to the Braves where he pitched in his one and only MLB game of his career. In that game, Soriano showboated on a long fly ball he hit off Bueno, jumping and celebrating thinking it was a home run, but that moron had to settle for just a single when it hit the wall. Soriano's next AB, Bueno almost hit him in the head and the umpire ejected Bueno.

After that game, Bueno was sent back down, and he was handed a 3-day suspension by MLB, but he could only serve that suspension (and appeal that suspension) when he gets called back up.

Almost 4 years later (after pitching in South Korea in 2010, and Mexico in 2011) he's called back up, he immediately appealed his 2008 suspension, so that suspension is on hold pending the appeal.

Royals sending mixed signals on Francoeur

The Kansas City Royals' willingness to trade Jeff Francoeur has waxed and waned in recent weeks, according to major-league sources.

"Back and forth, every other week," said an official with another club.

Francoeur's status will be of particular interest once the Boston Red Sox trade Kevin Youkilis. Three teams -- the Pirates, White Sox and Dodgers -- were known to have interest in Youkilis as of Saturday. Clubs in need of right-handed hitting could turn to Francoeur after Youkilis is off the board.

It may be difficult for the Royals to move Francoeur in the immediate future, because they opened Saturday only 5 1/2 games out in the American League Central. But the apparent readiness of stud hitting prospect Wil Myers could push Francoeur to the trading block closer to the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline.

Francoeur is an elite defender in right field and has World Series experience, having joined the Texas Rangers before their 2010 postseason run. He's known for leadership and an ability to hit left-handed pitching.

Francoeur is more available than Royals designated hitter Billy Butler, who is on a longer-term contract. One source said Kansas City general manager Dayton Moore would need to receive a "(Zack) Greinke-type" offer in order to move Butler.

Unless Cain is coming back soon, I don't know why they don't just bring Myers up now and let Gordon, Myers, and Francouer patrol the outfield. There's only so much Jarrod Dyson-watching a man can take.

totally agree with this.

dyson is barely qualified to be a pinch runner at best. everytime a ball is hit in his direction i cringe.
