2012 Kansas City Royals Repository Thread
2012 Slogan: Our Time
A better, more accurate 2012 Slogan: It is Finally Next Year (from Great Expectations) An alternative slogan if you don't like that one: Someone has to win this crappy division (from alnorth) With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore. We do not have starting pitching. Oh yeah, we've also got this: ![]() Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us. Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here. What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that: Quote:

Agree to disagree I guess. I’m really looking forward to adding another offensive piece, but I lived through the 1999 season and saw what horrible pitching will do. The LAST thing I want to happen is for all of this offensive talent to walk without having won anything.
If injuries are the biggest issue with pitchers, then my opinion is to stock your farm system with as many as you can get, 3 or 4 times what you think you will need. If a bunch get injured, you’ll still have some. If you end with more than you need, you can flip them for position players in an instant. On the other hand, we still have Odorizzi on track, Lamb should be coming back to the minors soon and a possibility for 2013, and Duffy will be back in 2014. But is that enough?

Myers' power numbers right now are ridiculously impressive. Last year, in approx. 100 ABs, Hosmer had 3 or 4 HRs in AAA. Roughly the same number of ABs, and Myers has 11.
Several of us have been saying that he has the distinct possibility to be the best of the bunch (thinking primarily of the "big 3": Moose, Hosmer, and Myers). |

I know basically what super 2 is and what it means for keeping players under control longer but how exactly does it work? I mean how do we know when a player is qualified?

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/0...prospects.html By keeping Myers and OdorEazy down, Glass saves money. That's all it is, so that's why I've long claimed that waiting for a deadline is a bullshit way of doing business and screams cheap and bush league. That said, most teams do the exact same thing, so our owner isn't unusual in any sense in this case. |

He did the franchise no favors. He only did the Glass family a favor. Cause they certainly didn't put it back into the team.

They've spent that, and then some on acquiring young talent in the draft and internationally. I'm not going to argue about major league talent acquisition, but he's put relatively significant money into the minor league system.

No way I trade Myers. Just no way. The value you get for a young, stud hitter is just much higher and less risky than a young, stud pitcher.
I have a giant boner for Dylan Bundy and Trevor Bauer, and I wouldn't move him for either of those guys. I'm all for stocking the farm system with pitching prospects and moving them when appropriate, for more ML-ready pitching. IF the Royals were smart, they'd move some sort of trade package around to get someone like Garza/Josh Johnson. The package I suggested earlier might work there. As long as the names Myers (untouchable) or Montgomery (trade value is too depressed to make trading him worth it at this time) aren't involved, it's good. You can move Odorizzi, but it sure as hell better be for a guy who is already established at the MLB level at around Odo's upside. And for somebody you either: 1) Control for 3-4 years; 2) Are confident you can sign to an extension/long-term deal.

I would easily trade Montgomery if a decent offer came along. He has been mediocre for about two years now with poor peripherals.
