With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:

Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

The thought on him last year was that he could only go to an AL team, and DHs are pretty easy to find.

Butler hit his 150th double in the last 3 years last night. The most in the majors over that period. Just sayin because I was reminded.

I meant move in a trade. I'm not advocating it, but just saying packaging a bunch of relievers and b level prospects isn't likely to bring back what we want.

I want so bad to hate him because his defense is average at best and I'm not thrilled with his plate approach. However, you can't argue with his stats. Could be a fluke, but I like what he's putting up #'s wise at the moment.

The pitchers we could get for the pieces we would trade will be available at the end of the season. No point in trading our top talent just to get a guy 5 months earlier. The list of decent major league starters after this season is much better than this past offseason. There will be plenty of options that do not require trading anything.

It could very, very easily be a fluke. We are talking about 75 abs here.

Trust me, I lean towards that, given the sample size.

I really just can't stand his defense. His speed allows him to get away with it sometimes, but he can't judge a ball for shit

This. The success of Jorge Bonifacio and Elier Hernandez makes Starling somewhat expendable.

With 1-2 of anyone in your system besides Myer and Starling. After that no one is untouchable for starting pitching.

That should be enough to get a pretty solid starter, add 1-2 more guys with some serious free agent spending along with 2-3 of your current pitchers (AAA and MLB).

Plug Myers into RF when he is ready and lets roll for 3-5 years.

An offer like that won't get you crap.

Problem with that idea is no big time free agent wants to come to KC(or maybe Glass doesn't want to pay, who knows). You pretty much have to trade for one if you want one.

Frenchy and Getz would fetch a bag of dicks. Each of the relievers could likely get a mid-level prospect--AA with upside. Crow might get that plus another throw-in.
