2012 Kansas City Royals Repository Thread
2012 Slogan: Our Time
A better, more accurate 2012 Slogan: It is Finally Next Year (from Great Expectations) An alternative slogan if you don't like that one: Someone has to win this crappy division (from alnorth) With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore. We do not have starting pitching. Oh yeah, we've also got this: ![]() Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us. Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here. What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that: Quote:

Doesn't matter if you get much, if you've also upgraded the position, while also lowering your payroll. Granted, I don't know enough to say that Will Meyers will be that immediate upgrade.

He doesn't really have one. He played SS, C and CF in high school (the positions the "best player/athlete" typically plays).
Most scouts think RF is his best defensive position, where he can be a plus defender. I'd be intrigued to see if he could handle second base. Put I'm greedy. The Nats are talking about trying it with Anthony Rendon. Would be a question of whether his first step and range could play at that position, and if he could pick up the turn. Also... unless Myers goes "Hosmer" on AAA, I think he's left there until September. It does create a potential roster flux next season. I understand the idea of keeping a veteran guy who has won and is a great clubhouse guy on the squad... Maybe the Royals will get creative (like I do in MLB 2012) and install a platoon system that has Myers starting in RF vs. RH pitching, with Francouer on the bench. Francouer would start against lefties in RF, with Myers sliding to LF and Gordon playing 3B. Too creative/crazy, though. LOL.

Wouldn't want to do that trade, unless the return was something ridiculous.

While I'd hate to trade a great prospect and keep Frenchy, we have numerous outfielders and that's a position that is generally pretty easy to replace. Nothing is off limits when it comes to acquiring pitching, so what (of value) would we rather give up? Hosmer? Moose? Escobar?

If possible I would try to package 1-2 of the following: Broxton/frenchy/getz/holland/crow/collins/giavotella
With 1-2 of anyone in your system besides Myer and Starling. After that no one is untouchable for starting pitching. That should be enough to get a pretty solid starter, add 1-2 more guys with some serious free agent spending along with 2-3 of your current pitchers (AAA and MLB). Plug Myers into RF when he is ready and lets roll for 3-5 years.

Have we talked about how surprising well Jarrod Dyson has been playing lately? I did not expect that at all out of this guy. He's getting on base, stealing bases, and scoring runs, just like a leadoff guy should.

And honestly I don't want to let Odoreasy go either.
But that's just me. I'm projecting him to be an ace Posted via Mobile Device Last edited by SAUTO; 05-16-2012 at 11:31 AM.. |
