2012 Kansas City Royals Repository Thread
2012 Slogan: Our Time
A better, more accurate 2012 Slogan: It is Finally Next Year (from Great Expectations) An alternative slogan if you don't like that one: Someone has to win this crappy division (from alnorth) With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore. We do not have starting pitching. Oh yeah, we've also got this: ![]() Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us. Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here. What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that: Quote:

Of course. But none of that means I am obligated to listen to and/or enjoy it.
(This is mainly about Lenny - I used to listen exclusively to Chiefs Radio Network during games, for 7 or 8 years, but now I can't even get myself to turn them on) |

If there were an eighth circle to Royals hell, you would be banished to it. How much worse could it be than the seven circles we've already experienced in the last couple decades, though?

Hudler just on with Nick Wright, Jesus crossdressing Christ, I wanted to Earnhardt myself into the I35 median. Guy makes Tebow sound like a pessimist.
Interesting note though, during the hiring process he admitted that he was told it was David Glass that liked him for his positivity. Pretty obvious they fired Frank for being negative and wanted to bring in a homer. |

When I heard Hudler was coming on with Wright I thought it showed balls to face the critisism and that I may wind up liking the guy. Then he started talking and I felt compelled to shank him.

Hudler really rustled my jimmies during the first few spring training games that I watched. I'm starting to come around on him, though. He's got this "loveable idiot" thing going for me. Love it when he says "good job".

Going to be hard to listen to Hudler after listening to Gubicza doing such a great job being the Angels color guy. Yeah I'm biased anytime an ex-Royal is on the broadcast team but I love it when they tell stories about the good old days.

When he's 0 for June, Hudler will be the guy telling how important a scrappy guy like Chris Getz is around the local community.

From Ranys column yesterday on his Royals Preview....
This is kind of a sober reminder of just how far they have fallen in 26 years but at the same time an optimistic view for brighter days..... If you’re looking for goals to set for this season, the Royals’ incompetence over the last umpteen years facilitates this task for you. Here is a list of accomplishments the Royals can shoot for, in approximate order of difficulty: 1) Win 76 games, the most by any Royals team since 2003. 2) Win 78 games, the second-most by any Royals team since 1993. 3) Finish in third place, the highest rank by any Royals team since 2003. 4) Reach .500 for the first time since 2003 and the second time since 1994 5) Outscore their opponents for the first time since 1994. 6) Finish in second place, the highest rank by any Royals team since 1995. 7) Win 84 games, the most by any Royals team since 1993. 8) Win 85 games, the most by any Royals team since 1989. 9) Win the division or qualify for the playoffs, for the first time since 1985. 10) Win 93 games, the most by any Royals team since 1980. Just shoot me now, by the way. Royals fans grade on a curve; we evaluate our teams on a different scale than most. Knocking off even just the first item on this list would qualify the season as a modest success, albeit a modest disappointment as well. We’ll see how things go, but I’m confident that by year’s end, you can cross the first four items off. Items #5 and #6 are definitely in play; with a little luck we could get down all the way to #8. All that really matters, of course, is #9. I don’t think they’ll get there this year. But I think we’ll have a lot of fun watching them try. http://www.ranyontheroyals.com/

Jeff Francoeur is awesome.
Quick background, late last year a group of total die-hard Oakland fans in right field were holding a "bacon tuesday" celebration where they cook up and eat bacon while heckling the opposing right field. Frenchy was game and interacted with them, and at the end of game they saved a plate of bacon for him. The day after that he threw a baseball with a $100 bill rubber-banded to it to them, saying bacon and beer was on him. Flash-forward to yesterday, the 2nd annual bacon tuesday, where they gave Frenchy a T-shirt commemorating the event. Then today:
