A better, more accurate 2012 Slogan: It is Finally Next Year

With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:



Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

Since Petro is talking about this now thought I'd post this here.When I was in Vegas for March Madness I went ahead and said wtf and bet 3 Royals future bets.

Win division 7/1 $20

Win AL 25/1 $10

Win WS 60/1 $10

Figured I can easily drop $40 at video poker in less than an hour sometimes so this will at least give me something to watch....for awhile.

Not shocked there...since the injury to Soria; Holland, Herrera and Crow have all be put into late-game pressure situations and not performed all that well. Yes, I realize it's ST, but that shouldn't be an excuse for not executing. Broxton has thrown well in all of his appearances thus far.

I am really excited about Lorenzo Cain. You know his defense is going to be an upgrade, and I am starting to expect him to outperform Melky at the plate (at least this year - not sure he will outperform Melky's 2011 season).

Long-term, I think he's a really valuable complementary hitter and part of an excellent defense. Not sure there's a better combo in baseball than Perez-Escobar-Cain when all are healthy.

Yost was talking about Broxton hitting 96-98 and having his slider back. If that's the case, make him the closer, use Holland, Crow and Herrera as needed in key spots, and let Broxton do what he's used to (And flip him at the deadline if the situation is right). Rany is right, IMO, on that point.

Watching Royals vs Angels on MLB TV. Royals got up 7-0, then Teaford let up back-to-back-to-back HR's..then on the first pitch against the next guy beaned them. Scioca was pisssseddd..

Frenchy hit a 3 run HR, and Hosmer did too to deep center.

Nothing much to say. There was a ton of offense on our end, but the pitching blew ass, so we lost despite scoring 8. I bet we'll get plenty of those games this year. Fortunately, most of the runs were given up by pitchers who wont be in KC, so maybe we would not have lost this game if we were trying to win.

Just a couple pictures of the park, Tempe Diablo Stadium is nice, with cool little rocky hills nearby. There's not much shade, so you better be prepared with the sunscreen or you will fry (after a week of trial and error, I've figured out how much you need to apply: way, way more than I would have a week ago). Plenty of parking, no bad seats, and even though they do have bleachers, the bleachers have a back, so they are more like benches. The bad news: you'll have to sit near Angel fans. In contrast with my very limited exposure to Giant fans (who were cool as hell), in my very limited exposure to Angel fans, I had to sit in front of a bunch of OC girls who would constantly deride the Royals, and go "oh come on, really?", over and over again, almost every time they hit the ball.

Royals made 6 more cuts off their active roster today. Most were players no one would have expected to make the team, the only interesting move is that Jeremy Jeffress was optioned to Omaha.

Looks like SOS is probably going to be waived. If he clears waivers, we'll outright his ass back to Omaha.
