Big 10 Report: Conference Realignment
A source in St. Louis familiar with the situation told NewsCenter 16 Thursday afternoon that Missouri will leave the Big XII and soon join the Big 10. Other schools expected to follow the Tigers are Syracuse, Pitt, Rutgers and Nebraska.
Many have speculated that such an expansion would include Notre Dame but ND athletic director Jack Swarbrick told me today that the Irish prefer to stay independent in football and in the Big East for other sports. Swarbrick said maintaining football Independence is such a part of what Notre Dame is. He went on to say the Big East is a great partner for the University in other sports. "We do have to monitor what is going on," Swarbrick said. "There will be significant shifts. "Hopefully we can navigate them by keeping our football independent and keeping our Big East affiliation because that is what we care about." The move of Syracuse, Pitt and Rutgers to the Big Ten from the Big East could categorically change the landscape of the Big East itself. Thus, what Swarbrick is referring to when stating the University must continue to monitor what is going on. The interview with Swarbrick was done before the late afternoon announcement. http://www.wndu.com/sports/headlines/92447574.html Last edited by Mr. Laz; 06-10-2010 at 02:57 PM.. |

HH....if you think that expansion isn't going to happen, then all of the information in the world anyone could put together wouldn't satisfy you. I see a lot of political rhetoric from people who want to say the right things right now, but if one domino falls then you can be damn sure the other conferences are going to be wallflowers either. It's about money...and if you think for one second more revenue and a bigger piece of the bowl money won't drive even the academics to have second thoughts , please feel free. |

I agree the Big East makes the most sense for KU given the circumstances. I certainly understand why Mizzou would consider the SEC. It'd be brutal for football but schools like Arkansas, Vanderbilt, and even the Mississippi schools aren't that far from Missouri. There are parts of Missouri that are probably the same distance to Ole Miss as Columbia. It wouldn't be a complete stretch geographically. Either way you're going to have long trips whether it's Florida or UConn.
I can't imagine the Big East would be interested in everyone: KU, KSU, Mizzou, Iowa St. and Baylor, would they? That would be a gigantic conference come basketball season. Might as well go for Houston or Memphis and cover half the country. |

Ok ok ok. I've figured this all out. I really want to actually start calling Big East AD's and Big East front office execs introducing myself as Dan Bebee and Sheahon Zenger.
There are too many basketball only schools in the Big East to make due in the long run, they should know that. Just boot the dead weight, keep some of the basketball only schools that have prestige. Call it the Big Middle Eastern Conference if all I care, I don't give a shit. It'll go something like this. FOOTBALL WEST Baylor Kansas Kansas State TCU Missouri Louisville Iowa State EAST UCONN Pittsburgh Rutgers South Florida Syracuse W. Virginia Cincinnati If the 8 team craphole of the Big East gets an AQ/BCS invite as is, how the hell wouldn't they with that set up? As far as basketball, WEST Baylor Kansas Kansas State TCU Missouri Louisville Iowa State Marquette/G-Town/Villanova (pick 1) EAST UCONN Pittsburgh Rutgers South Florida Syracuse W. Virginia Cincinnati Notre Dame Good bye to the rest...most definitely Depaul, St. Johns, Seton Hall, Providence. It is f****** stupid that those teams are in this conference to begin with. Nothing wrong with that conference at all, probably would be better than the ACC @ football almost every year. Look at those markets right there. You get Texas, basically all of the midwest and some of the south, NY, FLA, ND nationally. I mean that should be a no brainer to ALL of those schools. Iowa State comes over because they already have an existing football program, the transition of starting one up at G-Town or Marquette etc would be to cumbersome. Villanova moves up to D1 football or you tell them to GTFO. That'll leave one spot open, hopefully for ND for football which I realize is a longshot. Tell them they can have their own network ala Texas, and that is as good as any conference in America. Last edited by BWillie; 09-05-2011 at 01:16 AM.. |

I love these kind of posts. 3 hall of famers and a BCS win. Sure it's not a football school but to claim something like "has no football team" just shows tells us so much. Good luck in your future my man. |

You'd think landing the KC market would be of interest to alot of places. Who cares how many TV's you pick up if noone is watching your channel.
http://www.kansascity.com/2011/08/29...in-forces.html The best case for that solid place to include KU largely centers around you, because Kansas City’s outrageous passion for college sports could become a factor in a potential conference shakeup. According to Navigate’s research, Kansas City ranks 12th of 77 markets in concentration of college football fans (46 percent) and seventh in college basketball (44 percent). None of the places with more football passion are bigger markets than Kansas City, and only Raleigh-Durham is bigger among the markets with more basketball fans. We have a higher concentration of college football fans than Atlanta, and more college basketball passion than Charlotte. In St. Louis, fewer than 30 percent define themselves as a fan of either college football or basketball. In the Pac-12’s major markets, it’s 27 percent for football and 18 percent for basketball. In the Big Ten, it’s 35 percent for football and 26 percent for basketball. Perhaps most eye-opening is that in the SEC, long held up as the gold standard for football passion, only 41 percent define themselves as fans. In that way, a Kansas-Missouri alliance could sell itself on being able to deliver one of the country’s best college sports markets, with the bonus of a heated and historic rivalry along with Mizzou’s presence in St. Louis. Would be nice if KU K-State, and Mizzou could go into one conference together.
