Big 10 Report: Conference Realignment

A source in St. Louis familiar with the situation told NewsCenter 16 Thursday afternoon that Missouri will leave the Big XII and soon join the Big 10. Other schools expected to follow the Tigers are Syracuse, Pitt, Rutgers and Nebraska.

Many have speculated that such an expansion would include Notre Dame but ND athletic director Jack Swarbrick told me today that the Irish prefer to stay independent in football and in the Big East for other sports. Swarbrick said maintaining football Independence is such a part of what Notre Dame is.

He went on to say the Big East is a great partner for the University in other sports.

"We do have to monitor what is going on," Swarbrick said. "There will be significant shifts. "Hopefully we can navigate them by keeping our football independent and keeping our Big East affiliation because that is what we care about."

The move of Syracuse, Pitt and Rutgers to the Big Ten from the Big East could categorically change the landscape of the Big East itself. Thus, what Swarbrick is referring to when stating the University must continue to monitor what is going on.

The interview with Swarbrick was done before the late afternoon announcement.

That's my hope.

As far as the Big 12 goes, it was only a matter of time before the conference was no more. It was doomed from the moment the "expansion" talks started.
I dunno about same conference but dropping from BCS football to FBS is going to cost a university/AD a LOT of money. And no legislature wants to see that in this economy.

Deaton's been in charge of nothing but screwup after screwup. Richard Wallace would've had this shit taken care of a year ago, but Deaton pretty much bops around with a smile on his face and an honorary bullshit title that Texas let him have to shut him up.

If Deaton even has any cards, I'm sure nobody's told him about them. Otherwise he'd have turned them face up long ago.

West - KSU, KU, Nebraska, MU, Iowa, Iowa State, Minnesota, Illinois

East - Wisconsin, Michigan, Michigan State, Indiana, Purdue, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State

Possibly flip-flop Wisconsin/Illinois

What's not to like? Even though it won't probably happen.

Meanwhile the 12 current members of the B1G looked at Iowa State and K-State and threw up in their mouths.

KU may have some draw due to the CBB love in Indiana, but that's about it.

If this thing goes nuclear, Iowa State is absolutely homeless and K-State may end up on the streets with them. If you're the B1G, you probably expand to 14 and then wait Notre Dame out.

I don't see how it doesn't blow up now. SEC will need another team. If they poach another Big 12 squad, it's over.

Don't worry, at least not for a few more years. OU hasn't shown any interest in the SEC, OSU isn't leaving their big brother, KU and K-State ain't getting a call and the combination of Alden/Deaton is about as useful as peanut butter and shit, so MU isn't going anywhere either.

The B12 will survive for another few years before the P12 finally decides to let OSU come along with OU. OU will bolt, Texas will run out of schools that are willing to bow before it so they'll go independent.

By that time, the music will have probably stopped and we'll get to round up the scraps to form our own "Great Plains" conference (see? Very catchy). Our conference Champion will compete with Utah and BYU for the coveted Cotton Bowl slot and we'll probably get 2 NCAA bids/year.

It'll be great!

****ing Alden.

God.

Nothing is worst then every tard in the world proposing what teams should make up an athletic conference.

That is easily the worst part of conference armageddon.

It shows a complete lack of understanding about the dynamics of the B10.
