A source in St. Louis familiar with the situation told NewsCenter 16 Thursday afternoon that Missouri will leave the Big XII and soon join the Big 10. Other schools expected to follow the Tigers are Syracuse, Pitt, Rutgers and Nebraska.

Many have speculated that such an expansion would include Notre Dame but ND athletic director Jack Swarbrick told me today that the Irish prefer to stay independent in football and in the Big East for other sports. Swarbrick said maintaining football Independence is such a part of what Notre Dame is.

He went on to say the Big East is a great partner for the University in other sports.

"We do have to monitor what is going on," Swarbrick said. "There will be significant shifts. "Hopefully we can navigate them by keeping our football independent and keeping our Big East affiliation because that is what we care about."

The move of Syracuse, Pitt and Rutgers to the Big Ten from the Big East could categorically change the landscape of the Big East itself. Thus, what Swarbrick is referring to when stating the University must continue to monitor what is going on.

The interview with Swarbrick was done before the late afternoon announcement.

Delany saw the way to cause a rift, knew the Big XII wouldnt be able to match the money the Big 10 could. Knew Texas wasnt coming, went to the north to pry the crown jewel. NU was the real target, Mizzou the pawn. No other school in the Big XII was more prime for the picking than NU. They were either Big XII or Big 10.

OU had no reason to. Sure love for the Big XII to remain intact. Fact is, the money will be there regardless of what conference we are in.

Not the Pac-10. There are other 800 lb guerrilla's in the room with them. They would be even with USC, Oregon and whoever else is the big shot out there but not run the conference like they did Big-12.

We'll see, the Pac 10 struck first by saying FU to taking Baylor. Something we in the Big 8 did not do.

USC could be down for more than 2 yrs depending on how Kiffin works out. Texas probably figures that since USC was given a standing 8 count it can come in and wreak havoc immediately.

i've heard the same stuff rustshack has about the 4 ( ku ksu mu isu ) to the big east. Would be nice to tell the Texas schools to F off if we could add/keep Ou and OSU to add to the other 4 and bring in 6-8 new ones. big pipe dream in that case and i see the texas and oklahoma schools to the pac ten maybe T am to the sec and the north 4 to the big east.

i'm in the wake me up when it's over crowd, thats for sure.

IMO, Texas and Notre Dame should join the Big Ten... and the funny thing is... Notre Dame has the shittest academics of the bunch.

Texas A&M go to the SEC.

Texas Tech and Baylor should join with TCU and Houston into something form their own Texas Network...

Texas could go independent... that wouldn't be bad.

We are living in the end times, folks.
