Big 10 Report: Conference Realignment

A source in St. Louis familiar with the situation told NewsCenter 16 Thursday afternoon that Missouri will leave the Big XII and soon join the Big 10. Other schools expected to follow the Tigers are Syracuse, Pitt, Rutgers and Nebraska.

Many have speculated that such an expansion would include Notre Dame but ND athletic director Jack Swarbrick told me today that the Irish prefer to stay independent in football and in the Big East for other sports. Swarbrick said maintaining football Independence is such a part of what Notre Dame is.

He went on to say the Big East is a great partner for the University in other sports.

"We do have to monitor what is going on," Swarbrick said. "There will be significant shifts. "Hopefully we can navigate them by keeping our football independent and keeping our Big East affiliation because that is what we care about."

The move of Syracuse, Pitt and Rutgers to the Big Ten from the Big East could categorically change the landscape of the Big East itself. Thus, what Swarbrick is referring to when stating the University must continue to monitor what is going on.

The interview with Swarbrick was done before the late afternoon announcement.

Texas Hold 'Em: Longhorns, A&M To Big Ten

Oklahoma Looking To Move To SEC, Needs 1 Other School

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- High level sources in multiple conferences have told KCTV5 that Texas and Texas A&M are looking to move to the Big Ten Conference and have petitioned for membership, while the University of Oklahoma is planning on petitioning the Southeastern Conference to become a member of its conference.

KCTV5's sources said that Texas and Texas A&M do not have to include Texas Tech or Baylor in their plans. Sources told KCTV5 that there have already been discussions about the two schools entering the Big Ten and that the agreement could be made as soon as Thursday.

Oklahoma is currently working on petitioning to enter the SEC, but must find another university to enter the league with them, sources said. TMZ Sports has reported that Oklahoma State is likely to accept a bid to move to the Pac-10. Earlier Thursday, Colorado accepted an invitation to join the Big 12.

KCTV5's sources also said that some Big 12 officials are saying decisions on which deals Big 12 schools take invitations by the end of the day Thursday, although the deals may not be officially announced. Big 12 officials also tell KCTV5's sources that some Big 12 office employees are planning to be without a job within weeks.

Those decisions would leave the University of Kansas, Kansas State University and the University of Missouri with Baylor, Texas Tech and Iowa State in the Big 12. The Missouri Board of Curators met Thursday and planned to meet Friday to discuss the future of Missouri sports.

First of all, if Nebraska were the only team to leave the Big12, that would leave the conference with 11, not 10. Second, that guy is a tool.

This just sucks ass. Mizzou has really got to feel stupid. Tried to make a powerplay and were left at the alter. The Big 12 ****ed up by not having equal revenue sharing and giving few all the power. The whole deal just feels like a punch in the gut. I've tried to ignore it and decided I would wait to see what happens because there was nothing any of us could do about it, nor did, or does anybody have a ****in clue as to what the end game is going to be.

We'll just wait to see what happens with Texas. They're kind of what's holding what's left of the Big 12 together right now. Hopefully they are beyond pissed at the Pac-10 for bringing in Colorado and kind of forcing their hand by letting Texas know they are going to be nothing more than 1 of 16. It all hinges on what they decide to do. With the ones left there is more than enough to have a great league. The one benefit that Texas will have if they stay is the ability to start a Texas Network which they wouldn't be able to do in what we call the Pac-10. Makes Texas even stronger, but as fans of the local schools we may have to accept it to still be part of a BCS power conference. How ever it works out the day of transaction will be here pretty damn quick. Whatever ends up happening I wish it would just happen so we know where the hell we now sit.

If we end up losing only Colorado and Nebraska and we keep everyone else I would be for bringing in TCU and someone else. Make OU and OSU (who is now denying they are leaving as we speak) part of the North to replace the two that left. With Nebraska and Colorado leaving this conference has geograpical moved further south and east. I'm just throwing it out there............Want this goat ****ing to be done and over with in one way or another.

A&M going pretty much seals MU's fait IMO. If they add Nebraska, Texas, Texas A&M, and Notre Dame they pretty much have to go East with the 16th team.

This one reads like the craziest story yet.

Why would the other Big 10 schools want Texas? Texas would dominate that conference. Neither OSU or Michigan would ever even sniff a championship shot again.
