A source in St. Louis familiar with the situation told NewsCenter 16 Thursday afternoon that Missouri will leave the Big XII and soon join the Big 10. Other schools expected to follow the Tigers are Syracuse, Pitt, Rutgers and Nebraska.

Many have speculated that such an expansion would include Notre Dame but ND athletic director Jack Swarbrick told me today that the Irish prefer to stay independent in football and in the Big East for other sports. Swarbrick said maintaining football Independence is such a part of what Notre Dame is.

He went on to say the Big East is a great partner for the University in other sports.

"We do have to monitor what is going on," Swarbrick said. "There will be significant shifts. "Hopefully we can navigate them by keeping our football independent and keeping our Big East affiliation because that is what we care about."

The move of Syracuse, Pitt and Rutgers to the Big Ten from the Big East could categorically change the landscape of the Big East itself. Thus, what Swarbrick is referring to when stating the University must continue to monitor what is going on.

The interview with Swarbrick was done before the late afternoon announcement.

Dude no, it's too much. I'm all for some friendly back and forth but rubbing it in an institutions' face that they've never won anything in 115 years is just oo much.

That would be hilarious. All this talk about Texas, Nebraska, Mizzou, what happens to Kansas, and the red headed stepchild stands up and says "I'm leaving forever!!"... the 11 others shrug, one even says WTF was that? and everyone goes back to what they were doing.

I as a Kansas fan have never claimed 5 National Championships.

Not all of us do that. In my eyes we've won 3 and are the 3rd to 5th greatest program of all time.

1. UK
2. UNC

3. KU - UCLA - Duke(I guess)

But if UK doesn't get it's act together soon KU and UNC can pass them by. KU nearly has them in all time victories and is tied with UNC currently.

The poor performance this year in the tourney really hurt KU basketball, I admit that.

I'm not bitching about the article, smart guy. I'm quoting it to show that your school that is supposedly "basketball royalty" has 3 championships in 100 years. You've got people in here putting KU above Duke and even UCLA.

UCLA has forgotten about more titles than Kansas has ever won, and people are trying to act like KU is somehow above them. Give me a break.
