Big 10 Report: Conference Realignment

A source in St. Louis familiar with the situation told NewsCenter 16 Thursday afternoon that Missouri will leave the Big XII and soon join the Big 10. Other schools expected to follow the Tigers are Syracuse, Pitt, Rutgers and Nebraska.

Many have speculated that such an expansion would include Notre Dame but ND athletic director Jack Swarbrick told me today that the Irish prefer to stay independent in football and in the Big East for other sports. Swarbrick said maintaining football Independence is such a part of what Notre Dame is.

He went on to say the Big East is a great partner for the University in other sports.

"We do have to monitor what is going on," Swarbrick said. "There will be significant shifts. "Hopefully we can navigate them by keeping our football independent and keeping our Big East affiliation because that is what we care about."

The move of Syracuse, Pitt and Rutgers to the Big Ten from the Big East could categorically change the landscape of the Big East itself. Thus, what Swarbrick is referring to when stating the University must continue to monitor what is going on.

The interview with Swarbrick was done before the late afternoon announcement.

Then again for MU you might as well throw away the last 100 years.
She called them to get on her knees and see if there was something, ANYTHING she could do to convince them to stick around.

Sorry Ms. Gray-Little. We have tickets to the next rodeo. This one is breaking up. We're out. Later.

Wow, some of you go all out and jump on the short bus just to feel better about yourselves or the team you root for. FFS, of course it would hurt KU to move to the MWC, and the school and fans should be a little scared...... but not to be outdone, in the other corner are Mizzou fans mocking, get this, winning & success... and trying to be superior because their school is closer to St. Louis. Seriously? Get a ****ing grip, people.

From what I've heard, it hinges on what Nebraska does... if they decide to leave, Texas and the little ones are more likely to leave. If Nebraska stays, regardless of what Mizzou does, Texas is more likely to stay and the Big 12 could be the Big 11. I really don't know, as it's all just speculation, of course.... in the long run, it might not matter anyway.

Nah, I think most MU fans are mocking the rampant basketball-centricism of many KU fans.

On the KU boards 90% of my posts are on football.

Basketball is just a nice little gem that some of us keep in our back pocket.

I actually find the KU fan and KU football fan to be completely different, which I'd expect is true of the MU football vs MU basketball fan.

That left Villanova with only a 38 percent profit margin, a bit below the combined 45 percent profit margin for the 64 tournament teams that report results (Air Force is exempt from reporting).

Together those schools had a combined $330.8 million in revenue during the 2004-05 school year, and $148.3 million in profits, even when including results from the 14 money-losing basketball programs involved in March Madness.

Based on those numbers, basketball is more of a sure money maker for schools than college football -- at least for the schools in the so-called six major conferences.

Really, I don't make stuff up. I swear...
This data is 5 years old. It is so out of date the program in this article that makes the most $ is U of A basketball which is now making about nothing if not losing $.
Let's see the current revenue$ numbers of football and basketball side by side, conference by conference.
If data age makes no difference I can prove to you why the Model T is the most profitable car to produce.
