It's a lot easier to win games when you have the best defense in the league that holds your lead for an entire 4th quarter. He was a game manager. I thought he played fine for a rookie, but when people elevate him to a clear future franchise QB based on 2009, that's just ridiculous. As I said before, if we're so tough on our own being franchise QBs, why are we so loose about calling other QBs franchise QBs?
They are just numbers.

Sanchez made a couple of big plays in the playoffs, plays that the Jets needed him to make.

Numbers don't tell us that.

Does any of it mean that he's going to be a great QB?

No.

But don't throw numbers out there and try to tell me it proves anything, because numbers mean jack.

But they weren't just numbers. When it comes to the playoffs, it proved that he wasn't asked to do very much in the 4th quarter--how many playoff QBs have that luxury? And it showed that a lot of his scores required him to do virtually nothing. If you look beyond the numbers at the regular season, you'll see that in most games, the Jets won because the defense held the lead for an entire quarter or held a small deficit to exactly the same margin--how many defenses are that good that they can do that?

He was a game manager who made about 3 or 4 big plays of 40-50 yards. That's the best way to describe his playoff performance. That's not a bad thing. But a few months ago, everyone acted like being a game manager was such a terrible thing.

Like I said, not saying he was good or bad. Just saying that right now, he's a game manager. And people are trying so hard to pretend he wasn't Trent Dilfer. But that's basically what he was all season long. A game manager who wasn't asked to do much but delivered on the rare occasion that he was.

Then read before you rant. Both times.

There weren't just numbers. There was play by play analysis. Which you ignored. Twice.

I read the first post you stupid ****.

I said that Sanchez made a couple of big plays when the Jets needed them, and your numbers and play by play analysis ignore that.

I am also not arguing that he's any more than a game manager at this point, or that he will ever be any more than a game manager, even though I believe he will eventually prove out to be a franchise QB.

I am simply telling you I don't give a rat's ass about your useless ****ing numbers.

I have said several times that he's come up when asked to. And I said he made several big plays in the playoffs.

But it doesn't change the fact that people talk about him as this Quarterback that knows how to win. I don't know how anyone can say that when he's never been asked to do ANYTHING in 4th quarters and when asked to, hasn't been impressive. Going into the 4th quarter, the Jets won games usually because their defense held a 7-10 point lead. When the Jets were behind by, say, 7, their defense usually gave Sanchez about 5 opportunities to even the score. It's not like Brady, where you're constantly asked to engineer game-winning 2-minute drills early in your career. Sanchez's only job in the 4th quarter was to not shit his pants. And he did a few times, but the defense usually covered his pants for him.

In the late part of the season, he become a good game manager who made a few occasional huge yardage plays who wasn't asked to do anything when it mattered most. Or when he was asked, was very inconsistently admirable.

This isn't pointed at you as much as it is pointed at people who want to make Sanchez to be more than he is. He performed well for a rookie but has a really long way to go before proving he's a franchise QB. But he's going to continue to win games because his supporting cast is so damn good, he'll be asked to be a game manager. There are a lot of QBs who failed in the NFL that I can bet you would do just fine in the same role Sanchez plays. JMO.

Then, when talking to me, say that.

I can get behind that line of thought.

Throwing numbers at me and then trying to justify throwing those numebrs at me after I've said numbers mean hjack to me simply pisses me off.

I agree that Sanchez did nothing to prove he's going to be a franchise QB, so don't waste my time with numbers.

That wasn't what I meant, but you are right. Teams can rack up the regular season wins with that formula, but can't sustain it without the high level QB. I agree with that. The context of my comment was how the Jets won games this year. It sure wasn't with top flight QB play. If Sanchez continues his development, they will be competing for titles year in and year out.

Sanchez could someday be the Super Bowl MVP and people on Chiefsplanet will STILL say he sucks.
Hell people here still say Peyton Manning sucks. You'll never be able to please everyone.

He's one Super Bowl win better than Dan Marino. He beat Rex Grossman for the one that he's got. The best that the NFL had that year? Grossman? The Pop Warner league title winner could have beat Grossman and the Bears in that game.

Manning sucks dog nuts.
