A source in St. Louis familiar with the situation told NewsCenter 16 Thursday afternoon that Missouri will leave the Big XII and soon join the Big 10. Other schools expected to follow the Tigers are Syracuse, Pitt, Rutgers and Nebraska.

Many have speculated that such an expansion would include Notre Dame but ND athletic director Jack Swarbrick told me today that the Irish prefer to stay independent in football and in the Big East for other sports. Swarbrick said maintaining football Independence is such a part of what Notre Dame is.

He went on to say the Big East is a great partner for the University in other sports.

"We do have to monitor what is going on," Swarbrick said. "There will be significant shifts. "Hopefully we can navigate them by keeping our football independent and keeping our Big East affiliation because that is what we care about."

The move of Syracuse, Pitt and Rutgers to the Big Ten from the Big East could categorically change the landscape of the Big East itself. Thus, what Swarbrick is referring to when stating the University must continue to monitor what is going on.

The interview with Swarbrick was done before the late afternoon announcement.

KK said that KU/KSU have made repeated statements in support of the B12 and the B12 commish and are committed to making the B12 a viable conference.

whereas MU/NEB has only said that they remain committed to the B12, but will do what's in their best interest and it's obvious that they're talking to the B10.

doesn't really inspire much confidence....

on the issue of revenue sharing, he basically said "well....bye"

and he never addressed the fact that the sec and big 10 kill the big 12 in tv money...."being competitive on the field" is nice but has jack shit to do with the issues at hand...

Also, KK is really, really hoping the PAC 10 will kick the Big 10 out of the Rose Bowl, and play the Big 12 champ instead.

on the revenue issue, Beebe basically said that Texas paid more to buy in, therefore they get more payout.

A better chance to win the league maybe? I doubt it though unless the big 12 and pac 10 get a tv deal to up revenue.

After listening to that interview, there is only one valid reaction: Dan Beebe is a mental midget.

He has nothing to offer Missouri, and insinuating that they should stay or else (as he has for a while), while making it clear he doesn't know anything about the state, the school, or it's priorities isn't going to help.

For those hoping for a strong Big 12/Pac-10 alliance... this is the man who will be trying to make it happen.

Do you really think this man can get the remnants of the Big 12 to play nice (finally) and also combine efforts with the Pac-10 to make things happen?

If there was anyone at Mizzou waffling on this decision, and I see no reason why there would be, that interview should push them over the edge.

No doubt in my mind that Mizzou will bite the Big 10's hand off when they come knocking.

The main thing I get out of that is that Beebe knows MU & NU are gone...he is trying to hang on to CU.
