Welcome to the 2010 ChiefsPlanet Mock Draft.

We have some new owners this year, so here's a quick run-down on the rules.

Each team will have 24 hours from the timestamp of the previous pick to make their selection. If your pick is not made within 24 hours, the next owner is free to make their selection.

The draft order is now final, with the exception of possible compensatory picks. As in past years, if the NFL announces an official list of compensatory picks BEFORE we finish the 3rd round, I'll add them in. If not, the draft order currently listed will remain. Any trades made in real life will NOT change the mock order from this moment on - personally, it's just too much work, and you run the risk of a pick being traded in real life after it's been made here in the mock.

If you think there is any chance you'll miss your pick, please try to send me a PM with a prioritized list of players - I'll select the highest priority player available from your list to keep things moving.

Please try to check in at least once a day, if not several times daily. We've never had an issue finishing 7 rounds in 6 weeks and I don't expect to have a problem this year - but it's up to you guys as owners to stay current.

When making your selection, please post the name, position and school of the player (follow Hamas' lead, he knows the drill - the correct format helps greatly when updating the header) and give a quick blurb about why you selected that particular player. Doesn't have to be a novel.

I'll be in class from 11:00 - 2:00, but I'll log back in to put Hamas on the clock at Noon.

This is a good pick. Houston dominated in the big 12 title game he's a underrated player.

The Broncos are up, and I am puzzled at this point because I haven't a ****ing clue as to what they want to do with Brady Quinn. The compensation for Brady Quinn is that of a backup QB, but it's clear they brought him in to compete with Orton.

If there were any QBs that I think would become a starter with this pick -- like Jarrett Brown of West Virginia, Tony Pike of Cincinnati, or Colt McCoy of Texas, or Jevan Snead of Ole Miss, or Dan LeFevour or John Skelton of tinier programs -- this pick would be made for a QB.

Brown -- promising but boneheaded, and not the kind of QB McDaniels likes.

Pike -- is exactly the kind of QB McDaniels likes, limited physically but very smart and is more accurate in games than his drills indicate, but a replica of Orton

McCoy -- comes about as close to making this a selection as anybody on the board, he fits Denver's offense and has better physical abilities than Pike or Orton, but the big issue here is his occasional mental and physical shits. When McCoy tanks, he tanks really, really hard. And that indicates something I can't quite put my finger on, but it's added discomfort to my evaluation of him as the offseason has progressed (many here will recall I was high on McCoy just a couple months ago).

Snead -- has played against the best level of competition but can't really do anything without great protection (which, by the way, Denver has)

LeFevour -- is a small school prospect that I think everybody's required to like every year, but I can't really get excited about. I like small school types like Josh Johnson from San Diego with ridiculous upside.

Skelton -- is another intriguing selection, simply because his upside is so unknown. Physically, he is ideal, and from what I read (but not seen) he has a demon arm. But he's in Tebow territory when it comes to how far he is from being ready to play.

The choice is between McCoy and the following non-QBs that look like great value to me with this pick, who I've had targeted for this selection:

DE Alex Carrington, Arkansas State -- Denver's 3-4 hasn't really taken enough shape for me to understand what they want to do with it or their DEs. But if they're looking for penetration from a DE, Carrington's your man. (I don't like Jarvis Green and don't even care about Brennan.)

C J.D. Walton, Baylor -- A nasty interior lineman I've already talked about in this thread.

ILB Sean Lee, Penn State -- I would have picked him in the 2nd round if it weren't for his injury and personal red flags.

OLB/ILB Thaddeus Gibson, Ohio State -- Freak of nature that would be a pretty safe pick for your LB corps. Try him out at OLB, where he might succeed, then move him inside without a problem if he doesn't.

The point I'm sticking to is that there's a small handful of QBs that have what I would consider to be an outside shot to become a starter in this league, and judging from the reactions across this BB, I think most of them are going to last another round.

Instead, I'm going to replace Casey Wiegmann by bringing in a guy I thought was bottom-2nd talent in picking up Walton.

The Broncos, after much deliberation, select C JD Walton from Baylor.

Texans are on the board, along with OTW, who knows what he did.

After losing Peppers in FA, perhaps the greatest need for the Panthers is DE. There is still a really nice pass-rusher available, who I have rated above many of the 3-4 OLBs already taken, but unfortunately that's what he is-a 3-4 OLB. So, we take a bit of a chance here on a small-school guy with great size (6'6", 276), very good athleticism, and a fast first step. He is raw, coming from division I-AA Murray State, but the upside is there. The Panthers will add a body to their terrible D-Line and select Austen Lane, DE, Murray State.

This would have been a good pick in the 6th round.
