The Pioli Watch Thread

I'm hijacking the thread starter to use for an "updates" area. Sorry cardken. Here are a few recent updates:

Pioli would find a warm welcome in Kansas City. At the last Chiefs' home game, shortly after the embattled Carl Peterson resigned after 20 years as president, general manager and CEO, several signs were spotted in the crowd proclaiming, "We want Pioli." Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

One article stated that Pioli and Hunt were making progress in negotiations. Can the sticking point still be Herm Edwards?

Pioli knows what the job descriptions of a GM entail, so what really is to negotiate? It could be money, but those type of negotiations seem only to take a long when there are multiple bidders, which doesn't appear to be the case unless Hunt is bidding against Kraft. I don't believe that because Hunt is good friends with the Krafts, and wouldn't have pursued Pioli unless they consented.

Seems to me that more likely what has happened is that Pioli has been offered the job, and is not really negotiating but is contemplating the offer. That is, unless Herm really is the sticking point.

Why would that warrant an official thread?

I have a real hard time believing Herm has anything to do with the GM hire. Clark has said that while he would like to retain Herm, it wouldn't be a requirement for a new GM. Unless something concrete comes out saying that retention of Herm is an issue, I just can't believe it to be true.

As for negotiations, I'm sure a lot more goes into it than we realize. Besides money, there's also things like contract length, performance bonuses (don't know if GMs get these), power, ability to hire/fire any coaches (rather than the HC), ability to work with Thum, etc.

Then, there's the issue of the Pats, and if they're trying to counter...

I just hope Clark isn't putting all his eggs into one basket. If Pioli is just contemplating the offer (rather than negotiations, or working out family decisions), then I have my doubts about him being the guy - I want someone who really wants to come to KC and turn this thing around. Perhaps that's idealistic, but that's my right as a fan.

Sure, but for for negotiations to be continuing, there has to be a sticking point. Other than Herm Edwards, what could it be? I guess it could be Thum. Clark is trying to convince Pioli that Thum is extremely competent, and won't interfere, but that Clark wants to keep him.

None of them are leaving.

They have Jim Caldwell in position to take over.

Perhaps Pioli would like to be surrounded by his own people
they need time to talk to their wifes and families to get an answer
and there are people at Arrowhead who don't know if they have jobs or not
you don't just shue them out -they need time to clean out up to 20 years of stuff

Scott has definitely been offered the contract and all indications are he agrees with the terms. Unless, he gives Kraft a shot to match, we should be hearing an announcement within 48 hours.
