I'm Really Tired of Fair Weather Fans

I understand the Chiefs are not a good football team. But, I am so tired of all the people who post on this website claiming the Chiefs are totally void of talent. It is just a stupid, stupid comment. The Chiefs a full of young talented players. No they are not at the point where they can win consistently in the NFL, but look at what a bunch of 1, 2 and 3 year players did. They were in every single game except for a couple. With another year of two experience, a quality leader at QB, and maybe a few quality experienced FA and these guys could certainly be a very good NFL football team.

Offense:
LT Brandon Albert - Had an excellent rookie season. Could easily be a top NFL LT in the coming years.

RB Jamal Charles - had some very good moments this season. I don't believe he is an everydown RB, but he certainly could be a very good change of pass guy which every team seems to need now in the NFL.

QB Tyler Thigpen - Ok you certainly can't be totally sold on TT, but he really had a pretty season considering his experience. He has the arm, he can add the run dimension to the QB position, and I think he is a leader. Can he learn to read defenses and be more accurate with his throws? The point is he has some real talent. With only five years of QB experience in his life he has showed me something.

TE Cottham - His opportunities where limited playing behind the greatest TE of all time, but he appears to be a pretty good blocker and showed he can catch a pass or two.

WR Dwayne Bowe - Has all the talent and ability to be a Hall of Fame caliber WR. Needs to learn to be more focused and how to be a professional WR. If he does that, nobody will have a better WR in the NFL.

Defense:
CB Brandon Flowers - Had a very, very good rookie campaign at a difficult position to play with absolutely zero help from his front seven as far as QB pressure goes. This guy should be a very solid CB at worst for several years and very possibly an elite CB in the near future.

CB M. Leggett - Here is a rookie FA who made an impact. One of those guys who is a football player. He will probably never be a superstar, but he certainly looks like a guy you love to have on your team. Always around the football, very good special teams guy, he just makes plays as a role player. Great football teams have guys like Leggett.

LB Derrick Johnson - He has become a very nice LB. I don't really see him becoming a superstar NFL LB, but he can play for any NFL team.

DT Glenn Dorsey - Jury is certainly out on GD. Really did not meet expectations during his rookie campaign. But, he was not horrible by any means. DT is an very tough transition to make from college to pros. How many DTs can you think of who has made a huge impact as a rookie. Added strenght, bulk, experience, and talent on the front line around him and GD could certainly become a dominate DT.

DE Tomba Hali - He will almost certianly never be a superstar, but he is a pretty solid DE. Again you put some better talent around him and he will make a bigger impact (Remember his impact when JA was around).

S Pollard/Page - A couple of young safties who have proven they can play at a pretty high level in the NFL. Again they just need some help up front so they don't have to defend receivers for 6+ seconds every pass play.

If you put some quality NFL coaches around this group of guys, which I don't think they have had up to this point, have another good draft this year, find a couple of FA with some leadership and experience the 2009 Chiefs could be the 2008 Dolphins.

I'm not saying everyone should blindly drink the Chiefs coolaid, as a lot of things could go wrong. But don't insult them buy saying the team has no talent. Best of all we have finally purged ourselves King Carl and certainly the coaching staff is soon to follow. Things are looking up in Chiefland if you ask me.

That's why I put an extra pair of hand warmers in with the foot warmers. I stuck them down at my toes.

LT Brandon Albert - Strongly agree. Albert had a very promising rookie year and looks to be a starter on the Oline for the next decade.
RB Jamal Charles - Disagree somewhat. He provided some excitement and is a good (not great) player to have but he isn't a player you build a team around.
QB Tyler Thigpen - Strongly disagree. Thigpen played better than anyone expected but hasn't done enough to warrant any long-term plans.
TE Cottam - Agree. Cottam looked great in limited opportunities. Doubtful he could replace Tony but, who could? In any case, if Gonzalez leaves I have no problem penciling-in Cottam as the starter for the next 4-6 years.
WR Dwayne Bowe - Disagree strongly. Bowe may or may not ever reach the probowl, he almost certainliy won't be considered for the HOF because he isn't a burner and he drops too many passes. Bowe would be a great #2 but he's a mediocre #1.
CB Brandon Flowers - Strongly agree. Flowers did an amazing job this year with no effing help.
CB M. Leggett - Disagree somewhat. Leggett is a good/maybe great nickel or dime CB but probably not a starter. It's great we have him now but he isn't somebody you build a team around.
LB Derrick Johnson - Somewhat disagree- DJ is a solid linebacker who gives us 1 or 2 great performances a year but looks pretty average for extended periods. I do hold out hope that new coaches and schemes can make him more effective but, to date, he hasn't been special.
DT Glenn Dorsey - At this point, who knows?
DE Tamba Hali - Strongly disagree. Hali is average to below average in general terms and a certifiable bust in relation to his draft status. We absolutely have to replace him.
S Pollard/Page - Somewhat disagree. Page and Pollard have been ok but they are not players to build a team around.

By the way, when people say the team is devoid of talent I would think they are referring to specific positions. QB and DE and the most important positions in today's NFL and we have nothing at those positions.

This team is devoid of talent. When you need to turn over roughly half the starters, plus get good depth, that means there is a distinct lack of talent.

Well I can at least respect someone who has put some thought into why the Chiefs are lacking talent. I don't agree for reasons already stated, but I certainly respect some real thinking going on. More than 90% of the attempts in this thread. Example:

I think a "fair-weather fan" is someone who only gives two-sh*t$ when the team wins. Most of the people around here are discouraged because they want the team to be better. If we were all fair-weather fans this place would get about seven posts a day.

But at least you got the part about the Chiefs not being a good football team right.

No, no, no, you got that all wrong. To be a true fan, you either have to think the team has great talent, live in Jackson County, or go to games.
