totally agree.

I'm hoping we'll look back on this game at the draft & think boy I'm glad they lost that game or we couldn't have picked _____________.

Things I didn't like today...

Herm choosing to decline a penalty for 2nd and 3 rather than 1st and 5. That's just plain ****ing stupid.

Herm choosing to punt the ball rather than go for it in the 4th quarter on 4th and 5 when we're 1 and 7...it worked out, which amazed me...but I still thought it was stupid and it irritated me. But to his credit, it turned out to be the right move.

Other than that...the choice to play conservative at the end of the first half didn't bother me at all...we were getting the ball to start the 2nd half and we went straight to our bread and butter (no huddle spread) so I thought that was the right move...and Herm really made a great choice to go for 2 at the end of the game.

Herm has a long way to go but I think he's learning and I have no doubt he could turn out to be a good head coach as long as he leaves the offense to his coordinator...I mean, we've seen the eye he has for talent so at least we have that going for us.

I think the coaches had a meeting and they all figured out they were going to be canned if something didn't happen so Herm gave the full reigns to the offense to Gailey and it has paid off...and I think he's learned a valuable lesson.

There is no reason that this team, with some moves and another good draft, can't be competitive next year as long as we maintain the level of QB play we've seen the past three weeks.

The conventional wisdom says go for the win on the road and for the tie at home. Herm did right.

Personally I don't like him, but you have to admit that both the coaching staff (herm included) and players have gotten better. It's painfully obvious that everyone knew they wouldn't be competitive until late in the season.

I don't like Herm as a coach and believe he makes bad game day decisions, but you have to admit that the team has gotten better. Personally I believe the team will be really good next year, but we will be limited in wins because of coaching. I also believe that in 2010 we will receive a new coach. But this coaching staff will be around next year (along with Carl).
I've already stated that I think it is only a matter of time before this team starts winning games. I want us to keep losing so that Herm will get fired before he turns things around. If we start winning, we will have Herm here for many, many years. And we will never win in the playoffs. At that level, the talent is so good you need every advantage to win 3 or 4 games in a row against really good teams. Herm just isn't a good enough game coach to win consistently in the playoffs. He's too conservative. I was against hiring him the first time his name was mentioned as a replacement for Vermeil and I'll be anti-Herm until he's gone. I just don't agree with his mind set for building a team or managing a game.

BZZZZZZZZ.

People don't change their core beliefs long term. Herm might show a flash of change here or there, but when the pressure cranks up, he will gravitate back to his conservative ways like a security blanket.

The fact that going for 2 failed today is already lodged in his sub-conscience. For Herm it will be an example of something bad happening when he stepped out of his comfort zone.

Hey, I don't like Herm Edwards as a head coach...but I don't think he's nearly as inept as everyone else does. We knew it was going to be a rocky year, the fact that our coaching staff has at least shown the ability to adapt on the fly is at least promising. Can't say that about last season.

Yes, it sucks that we lost... that always sucks. But this team is clearly getting better. If you can't see that, you're blind.
At least we have tradition to fall back on.
