If you want to talk solid, unspectacular drafts this one would be hard to beat.
However, I prefer quality over quantity and would rate the picks of Derrick Thomas and Will Shields (possibly Gonzales too), by THEMSELVES, above the 1996 draft because those 2 guys, by THEMSELVES, have had more impact than the entire 1996 draft put together... |

Lets face it, this team would now be SUNK if not for the Larry Johnson pick a few years ago (that just about everyone gave a "Damnit Carl" to).

I agree with htismaqe that the 96 class was solid, but I'd rather have a draft that produced one sustainable superstar than one that produced several journeymen.
And cdcox took the draft that I was going to mention. That is definitely the best draft ever. Another good one might be the one that produced Lanier and Lynch at linebacker.

2004 could be something special if Siavii and Wilson got their acts together. I think the rest will be good players.
Junior Siavii Kris Wilson Keyaron Fox Samie Parker Jared Allen Jeris McIntyre Kevin Sampson.

The 1988 draft produced the coolest-named Chief of all time:
9th round - WR Azizuddin Abdur-Ra'Oof

1982 and 1985 had to be the worst.
It's tough to compare the old drafts with all of those rounds, with the current model. However, 1988 and 2003 are probably the best in the "modern era". When you review all of those old drafts you can't help but be struck by how badly the Chiefs have consistently drafted. |
