100 GMs out of 100 would have paid Kelce over Trent in that situation to play with Mahomes.

Don't even try to act like that was a controversial decision.

Personally i do not thiink that Trent was ever coming to KC. He most likely was using the Chiefs to get the 49ers offer a little higher.

Except Bill Belichick.

100 GMs out 100 GMs would take a HOF LT over a HOF TE.

1. Invest a 1st round pick at Tackle

2. Pony up and reset the Tackle market with a top Tackle like Trent

Either of these would have been perfectly F'ing appropriate. I just wish it didn't take so long.

The point from which you’re arguing is disingenuous.

They did try to make Trent Williams the highest paid tackle. They didn’t choose Kelce over him. San Fran just hit the bid button once it got to “desperate” mode and KC did.

That was a serious attempt. So was trading a first for Orlando Brown and trying to lock him up long-term to the top contract at the position.

Spending top 3 round picks isn’t half-assed or dumpster diving. It’s just a different type of gamble.

Trent Williams has literally been the only top tackle other than Orlando Brown and Jawaan Taylor to hit the market. Those are the three best Ts, and the Chiefs have tried with all three.

Acting like the Chiefs haven’t been serious about replacing Eric Fisher is just silly.

The same Belichick that signed Gronk to a 6 year $54 million contract extension in 2012, which was at the time the largest ever for a TE?

The Patriots could afford that luxury because they were already set at Left Tackle.

That is exactly the case. Trent Williams wanted to stay in San Francisco. Chiefs gave him the leverage he needed to really squeeze the Niners for top dollar. He got exactly what he wanted, but he ultimately gave up a chance to win 2+ championships.

The worst contract on the team is probably Taylor...but there wasn't anything the Chiefs could do at that point after OBJ ****ed us. They really thought he could probably play LT.

The next worst is Creed Humphrey which we did to ourselves for absolutely no reason.

Creed and the eventual Trey Smith deal aren't a big deal as long as Simmons plays at a high level at LT for 4 years assuming his rookie season is a redshirt year, if Kingsley wins the LG position and plays it well, and after this season you rid yourself of the Taylor deal with ideally someone on the roster or a rookie is drafted to man the position. That's three cheap deals to offset 2 big contracts.

While I'd love it, could you imagine what some would do if we took another tackle with our 1st round pick next year?
