This is why I’m happy with what Veach did. The Moore signing was a best case scenario.

I think that's the most likely outcome. Apparently Veach made it clear Taylor isn't getting extended and Simmons may end up having to wait until next year to show what he can do. At that time we should have both our LT and RT making any real money off the books and moving on.

Next year we can re-evaluate our own youth on the depth chart and add another pick to make sure the tackle position is addressed.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

If Simmons plays, I don't see it being anywhere but LT. Not sure I see him starting this year, especially early on.

Moore, IMO, is either LT or LG. He was hot ass garbage at RT and we don't need a RT right now.

Suamataia will get his feet wet at LG, barring something amazing happening at LT.

Humphrey isn't moving anywhere.

Taylor isn't going anywhere.

Morris will be the primary backup at RT and probably LT early on.

Here's what we do know, we know he cannot play LT in the NFL at this point. And the Chiefs know it as well, or they wouldn't have gone to the lengths they have, to replace him. But that's okay, if he turns out to be a decent guard, then he was worth it. He'll get the chance, but that game in Denver means nothing to me.
Its what we have to work with. He's starting at LG. Reid has said he can handle that position. Last I checked, Reid decides who starts on his offense.

Simmons's a risk for sure. DJ and others have a legit concern about the history of recovery from that injury. We can all agree that we need a legit LT to protect our moneymaker. Since we wont be picking at the top of the draft for at least a decade, gambling on an injury with a legit LT is the best we can do.

Yep. If it's best 5 and Simmons is actually ready to play come TC then I think it'll end up being

Simmons/Moore/Humphrey/Smith/Taylor

If not then slide Moore over and presumably Kingsley at LG, unless he's just absolutely terrible then one of Morris/Caliendo/Nourzad

Moore is not starting at LG. Kingsley will. Have you not hear what Andy said about Kingsley?

I wouldn’t be so sure.

If Simmons is ready to go, Moore is an option at LG despite what Reid said about Suamataia before the draft.

He talked about the bet 5 playing, too…

So what if we overpay for a swing tackle/insurance policy for one season. I give zero ****s, and actually feel GOOD about the fact that we went from zero LT's on our roster to having TWO.
Hang with me here....

What if they're BOTH good?!?! And you can keep Moore at LT and Simmons can be RT and we don't have to further shuffle the line? And you don't have $30mil over 2 years wasting away on the bench. Crazy idea, what do you think of it?

What does not wanting the guy we signed and are paying 21mil this year to be on the bench have to do with not wanting the team to win? What's the correlation? If he plays well right off the bat and Simmons isn't ready to play, why does Simmons NEED to be the LT when he is ready?

Wasn't directing that specifically at you, I actually agree with this logic. He absolutely should have to earn the job. I'm talking about people who seem to be rooting for him to fail, which there seems to be a few of.

My hope is that Simmons and Moore are both so good, that Taylor is the one who ends up on the bench. I know Moore has only played LT, but that's what I would love to see, personally. I think if he can play LT, he can easily transition to the right side. Andy keeps saying the best 5 will play, and I think he'll end up being included in that list one way or another. It's a huge win for us if he does and makes this an incredibly difficult decision.

Not that this is too surprising, but apparently a millimeters difference in surgery for this injury could mean less stability, less strength and more future issues.

Andy said the surgery was viewed as a good surgery. I wonder if some of these other guys who had surgery on this did not have a clean surgery resulting in rehab issues?

Moore has played LT at a decent level for what, 5 games ish?

He's also under contract for 2 years. It's easier to find a RT than a legit LT, so Simmons needs to be developed at LT first and foremost.

I think it would be fantastic if Jalen Royals proves to be a #1 wide receiver in August and immediately leaps to the top of our depth chart.

I think it's folly to act as though its at all likely to happen.

And he doesn't carry with him the risk of re-injury that Simmons would 10 months off a major knee surgery; 4 months after he just started doing weight work on said knee.

We have an established veteran starter at RT. We have a guy we liked enough to put 5% of our cap towards at LT. We have options that make trying to start a rookie coming off major injury in week 1 unnecessarily aggressive. Or at the very least, incredibly unlikely.

The 'best' thing that could possibly happen is that Jaylon Moore proves to be a premier LT and gives our rehabbing rookie an opportunity to learn the NFL game while simultaneously getting back to 100% health.

Or are we now arguing that not only was Simmons a slam-dunk turnkey starting LT in week 1 AND had an injury so minor as to allow him to start in Week 1 without any sort of reinjury risk....and that he fell to 32 anyway?

SOMETHING has to give here. He can't simultaneously not have had THAT serious an injury AND been an obvious week 1 starting talent who fell to the back of the 1st. Because if so...well shit, why NOT just start trying to figure out how we'll use Hollywood Brown at WR4?

At some point you have to assume some level of rationality in the NFL draft.

And others incapable of marshalling an opinion of their own while preferring to talk about other posters rather than the team then simply deferring to authority at every opportunity.

To each their own...

2 Years is a long time in the NFL. If he works out it is easy enough to extend him. The key is to have one of them to be a above average LT. But yes I see both starting out there and hopefully one is going to be above average LT.
