I'm sincerely hoping that Moore shows out and Simmons can red shirt this season, the flop Moore to RT and start Simmons next season once Taylor is off the books. Morris is the swing, Kingsly is the LG... lets go.

Weird that the two OL examples that are easiest to find are both guys who tore their patellar tendons while on second deals with the Cleveland Browns. Are we sure they don’t use the same trainers as the Chargers?

But if you don’t want to look at him and throw it out as an outlier, you can look at Conklin (whose other knee exploded the year after coming back from this, and who is just now coming back from that).

The part that makes me the most apprehensive here is that even if you WANT to say he’s a positive outlier because the Chiefs doctors checked him out and are confident they are, the truth is Simmons apparently isn’t cleared for strenuous enough activity to truly test whether he is.

If all he’s cleared for right now is 225-pound squats as reported on Wednesday, we’re nowhere close to seeing if the power and strength and explosion and torque and flexibility from this knee are the same.

They can look at the knee and be happy with how it healed and confident he’s not going to develop a staph infection and convinced the joint is sound, with no loose bodies. They can probably even predict if tendinitis or early arthritis are issues and be confident they’re not.

But none of that is the real concern with this injury.

I’m crossing my fingers and hoping it works. It’s a tremendous advantage for the Chiefs if it does. I’ll be glad to be on the wrong side of this one, if that’s how it works out.
It’s very hard to predict how this injury will heal/affect his performance , the only ther concern might be his other knee , sometimes theses injuries are caused by a predisposition in his genetics , my friend tore both patellar tendons a year a part and my wife was told she had a higher chance of tearing her other Achilles after she tore one side.

I'll bet we find out later that no one was willing to talk to Veach about trading up. Seems like it's getting harder for the Chiefs to find trade partners. I really thought the Vikings might trade because they need picks but they must of wanted too much in the deal.

What? The Eagles traded one spot up with us because we almost assuredly had an offer or two from another team to jump them.

Can you blame the other GM's??? Why play into helping the Chiefs dynasty where Mahomes has played in the AFC Champ game like every year he has been a starter. We are a non-cheating version of the Patriots now, everyone is really starting to hate us

Okay, we have to stop using the word HEAL.

It's not about 'healing'.

It's about FUNCTION after healing. History says it doesn't work the same. Not the same explosion, flexibility, strength AFTER HEALING.

Now, maybe it's going to work out. Maybe he'll be fine and either 100% or near enough that it won't bother him.

But it's a risk, and a big one. Is it WORTH that big of a risk?

Well, the team thought so. I guess maybe so, when you consider that we weren't going to get near a top ten LT prospect any other way.

So let's see what happens.

Maybe they really are just foolhardy and so desperate for a franchise LT that they took Simmons, all risk be damned, or maybe they're privy to medicals we aren't and other teams didn't do enough work on him to find out one way or the other. We'll see come August, because Reid was adamant about him being good to go at training camp. If he's not it's going to be very concerning.
Yeah, I think for me the pick makes a lot of sense where we got him.

If we had the 15th pick in the draft and got a potential top-5 guy like him ex-medicals, I'd feel a little bit more leery. But we got a pretty reasonable discount in getting him at 32 (or 31 + a 5th).

As I said before, there are a lot of people who have pounded the table on trading up to get a top-10 tackle who is a "sure thing." I'd personally rather take a chance on the medicals at the end of the first round than make some splash draft trade that could also potentially have knock-on implications given reduced draft capital in future years.

And I'm willing to give Andy Reid the benefit of the doubt on this one that this isn't some panic pick or one done out of hubris. And the fact that they had so much interaction with Simmons throughout the process tells you that they really liked the person himself too.

It may or may not work out. Time will tell. But the process behind it is totally reasonable and justifiable. And I like how it pairs with the signing of Moore and the Taylor contract as well. You can see the vision for how the next couple years play out if this works or if this doesn't, and that's how good teams operate.

LOL. I KNOW it's freak'n elbow tear, but for some reason I had a brain fart and wrote rotator cuff.

Steve freak'n Busby (my favorite player as a child due to his 2x no hitters) had a rotator cuff repair where he was never the same.

And man, I'm surprised TJ isn't in. Catfish Hunter is in and Tommy john isn't. I just sorta assumed but, now that I think about it, a lot of people call him a compiler who played on good teams.

They gave us a 5th so someone wouldn't jump them so that means nobody wanted to give Veach more than a 5th round pick to get their guy. A 5th is pretty damn cheap to ensure you get the guy you want.

Yes, when I think of torn rotator cuffs, I immediately think of Busby. I had a poster of him in my bedroom growing up. Damn shame. Got hurt just as the Royals were breaking through.

Ya was using heal as in his total recovery from the injury strength/expl etc… which is just a guess at this point , I have seen the human body do a lot of weird shit good and bad .

It was a 5th to move up one spot. One spot. I think we did very well with that trade.

High risk high reward pick but I'm fine with it. After watching Mahomes get killed and get happy feet, it's worth a shot.
