I'm fine with it. We will never have the ability to draft someone like him unless there are injury concerns. Additionally, I think many are denial about the extent of the collapse in the Chiefs offense over the last two year. From #1 in yards per play to bottom ten (worse than the Jets). If Mahomes doesn't trust his LT, it gets into his head. Chiefs made a big bet --- if they win, they will have elite LT play essentially the rest of Mahomes' career. Seems reasonable to me.

This is rolling dice with snake eyes all sides. We are going to lose and the statistics with this injury smells like a waste pick.

You're right. If I got in an accident 10 years ago, clearly I'm a bad driver. Nevermind that I have a perfect driving record for the last 10 years.

They are still guessing as to if he'll regain 100% flexibility, strength, explosion, power and torque in that leg - and won't know until he's cleared, which sounds like Training Camp. So we wait, and cross our fingers.

Huge risk, which interestingly enough - the rest of the league wasn't concerned about his medical, yet 31 teams passed on a "Top 5 talent."

Hint: Teams know the stats/study kccrow posted and said, "nah we're good."

Well, this is NOT that.

This is a very significant injury, and a very risky pick.

But it's a pick that-should it work out, could be a HUGE get. A top Left Tackle talent at #32?

But it's a roll of the dice, make no mistake.

But like I said before, it's not the same as him getting the injury yesterday. He's far enough in the recovery process to change the dynamic a little bit, hence why Burkholder told Veach his recovery is "best case scenario".

Look, all hostility aside, this is a gamble... but you have to roll the dice sometimes and we are in a position to do that, fortunately.

There is a risk with all these guys, be it future injury or character concerns. Green is facing two rape allegations, but is healthy... would we feel more comfortable having drafted him? Burden has turned some people off, why? I dunno.

Lets hope the Chiefs know what they are doing....they have earned that benefit.

I'm pretty sure Verch knew exactly what he was doing when he traded down a spot, so I feel like it was a fantastic move. I didn't want Simmons because he seems like such a risk, but it doesn't much matter now. He's ours and I trust Varch, so I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best. Vench has a hell of a lot of leeway in my mind to take risks like this one.

Sure. But the things we NEED to know we CAN'T know at this juncture. It's not about HEALING. It's about how will it function AFTER.

It's a big risk.

Now, I've come around to accepting the risk because it's the only way we were going to get a shot at a top ten LT prospect. So ok, I'm accepting, and I'm rooting for the kid. I get the calculus.

I get the concern…sure it’s high risk/high reward; but so many of you seem to forget that the draft is a crapshoot always and forever. We won’t know for 2-3 years. What cracks me up most, is how so many seem to think they know more than the medical staff, Veatch, and Reid. Good God, get over yourselves.

LeCharles Bentley, who was an all pro interior OL for the Saints, tore it and never made it back on the field. He was in year 2 or 3 of his rookie deal.
For fun, I decided to choose just one of your examples and look more deeply, and I settled on Bentley. First, he was on the Browns when he tore it - just after signing a large contract - and was in year 5 of his NFL career.

But much more interesting, the dude got a staph infection while rehabbing in the Browns' facility (and he sued them for it and settled), had multiple further surgeries, and.... wait for it....

I’ll recognize that.

But the data is SO damning. And all the PFF grades are used for in that study is to evaluate a return-to-performance level. You can cover that gap by digging into individual cases.

There are a few players who came back and were productive but still less explosive athletically (Buckhalter and Jimmy Graham are the best outcomes i can find of that category).

It’s an enormous risk. If it hits and he makes a full recovery, it’s an enormous advantage moving forward. I don’t view the odds of a hit as being high enough for the risk factor.

But that’s just me. A dude that likes number (and who worked in healthcare analytics for five years, with statisticians and research physicians, which gives me just enough knowledge to get to the point where I’m worried about this).

God Damn. Can we table this discussion until, like, September? Then we'll actually have a real idea if Veach and Burkholder are ****ing reeruns or if this was much ado about nothing and we stole a potential top 10 talent at 32.
