Trade whatever possible for a LT prospect

I don’t care. If there’s a LT in this draft that they feel can be a good quality LT, do it.

I don’t care if it would cost three 1st rd picks. Mahomes is not gonna be this athletic for much longer.

It needs to happen

I mean, guys, duncan_idaho is not an NFL caliber athlete, and duncan_idaho can squat 225 one-legged.

Now, I was a pitcher, and as such focused a lot on making my legs strong because I wanted to throw hard. And I have always casually maintained that. So I am probably above the bell curve on what the average dude in his early 40s who is a casual workout person can do.

But still. Saying Simmons has already squatted 225 is a hilarious thing to even include. (Which an editor would catch, but it's a tweet).

This hits on one of the issues with this Simmons situation and injury. You can do scans and see that things are clean and scar tissue isn't an issue, and the joint is healthy and all that stuff.

But you can't truly measure max explosion, strength, twitch (the things that separate fringe guys from bench guys and bench guys from starters and starters from stars) for an offensive lineman until you can see what Simmons' new max squat is.

Till you see him wrestling with other 300 pound dudes in full pads.

Till you see how the knee/leg react when it plants and immediately has to bear the brunt of 600+ pounds of impact, or until you see how it reacts when it plants and has to shoot Simmons' 300 pounds back inside because the E is going across his face after getting beat to the corner.

History tells us that no one has EVER made a complete recovery to what they were before, and that only about 20 percent of guys come close.

Yeah. I started digging into that stuff about two months ago. It gets worse and worse and worse the more you look. I guess I was just a tad early to that party.

Sadly for Simmons, I think the end result here is going to be... some team spends a top 40 pick on this kid, and he never is a good NFL starter. He struggles to earn a second contract. And it's looked at as a major bust for whatever team/GM takes him.

Yeah - I think you were the first guy completely out on Simmons.

I was fine in the 2nd. Might still be.

But I'm just adamantly apposed to him in the 1st. I cannot talk myself into it at all. And with FAU I thought the pick was underwhelming but understandable.

This one would be more like Skyy or Speaks to me. I will just think we absolutely 100% got it wrong.

Maybe he's a unicorn. Maybe he's the one guy that recovers (then you still have to deal with the 50% hit rate, but that's the case for anyone you take in the 1st)...but if he truly does have "cares about football" concerns, you throw that on top of the big ol' pile of red flags, not the least of which is that I didn't think he was an amazing prospect to begin with.

I definitely preferred Anton Harrison even to Simmons healthy tape.

And Harrison appears to mostly suck. I actually like the raw tools for Kingsley more and you're gonna have to redshirt Simmons anyway.

It's just a really bad idea.

I believe our island has acquired a few more occupants, but it sure still feels a LOT lonelier than it should out here. I just don't understand what people are seeing that have them so stoked about this guy.

Now?!?!

Man, Duncan's been saying this for months. And others have been trying to say it in several different ways for quite awhile as well.

How can people just now be getting to the party on a damn torn patella???

Because unlike us drafturbators, they rely more on analysts and talking heads for draft info, and those people all have been (And largely continue to) acting like this is no big deal at all.

Brandon Thorn, who is probably the guy to listen to about OL, said Josh Simmons looked like a more fluid Christian Darrisaw.

The prospect without injury is extremely talented. I’ll stand by that. I get why the Chiefs would look into him.

Sucks for him that the injury happened

Yeah, I read it.

The first two players mentioned - never played in a game again.

Since that article was written, Victor Cruz and Jimmy Graham and JC Jackson and Jack Conklin and Jarod Mayo and Victor Oladipo and Jeremy Lin and Andre Roberson all had the injury and had it either immediately end or ultimately diminish their careers.

None of them came back the same.

That article is literally old news that REINFORCES why Josh Simmons is such a ricky ****ing bet.

I think that article shows age can have a major impact on how abilities either return or degrade after this injury. Most these guys you listed are late 20's with Conklin around 30. Josh Simmons being only 22 and the wear and tear or lack of wear and tear could be a factor on how his abilities come back.
