What Ballparks Have You Been To?

Or if you’re not a big baseball person, what other arenas have you attended for an event?

I’ll get us started with ballparks…

KC: Royals/Kauffman Stadium: first one I can sorta remember was in 1979. Still have a pennant from that year. 1979-2024

NYC/Bronx: Old/New Yankee Stadium: went to 7 games between the two ballparks and never saw the Royals win one game. 0fer 7. 2005-2016

NYC/Queens: Shea/Citifield: Shea was a toilet. Citifield is pretty good. Got to see game 5. 2005-2021

Baltimore: Camden Yards: great place. Softshell crab sandwiches. $40 seats three rows behind home plate. Good fans. Caught a bp Moustakas homer as I was inspecting the warehouse plaques. Royals won. Gordon went yard. 2013

Cincinatti: Old Riverfront: Ted Power got our family tix. He gave up a leadoff first pitch home run to Barry Bonds, but the Reds came back to win. 1987

Texas: Old Arlington Stadium: Don’t remember much except the park was horrible and we cooked for six innings before getting the hell outta there. 1984

Los Angeles: Dodgers Stadium: went to a few games there. Nothing exceptional about the park. Dodger dogs are overrated. Takes FOREVER getting in or out of that joint. 2000-2004.

Minneapolis: Metrodome: went to a few games there. Hamelin hit a moon shot to right. 1994-2006

Anaheim: Angel Stadium: only went once. Royals lost. Nothing stands out about the joint. It was hot. 2001.

St. Louis: Old Busch Stadium: went to a few games. Cool seeing Ozzie flip to start the game. And Donovan Osborne hit a grand slam at another game I attended. Place went ****ing bananas as he was the starting pitcher. 1982-2006

Pittsburgh: PNC Park: this place is a gem. Royals won both games I attended. Fireworks on the river after the Friday night game. Good fans. Good food options. 2024

Houston: Enron/Tropicana? Can’t remember if Enron was still in business…. My band was on tour and we had an extra night in Houston to hang so we went to a game. It was a blur due to being on tour, but we had a good time. I do remember the hot dogs being really effing good. Opened the roof in the 7th after the stretch. 2003

Detroit: Comerica: Greinke was pitching and he had a bad game. My only real weekend while working on a movie in Michigan. Nice ballpark. Good fans. 2010

Atlanta: Turner Field: on vacation with my then gf. Her brother drove us. Took forever getting into that place. Nothing very memorable. Though if you walked to a part of the parking lot, they had a piece of Fulton County stadium where Aaron hit his 755th. 2006

Denver: Mile High Stadium: tix were $3. I think there was something like 60,000 at the game. Few older buddies got me drunk. It was fun. 1993

I think that’s it for ballparks? Gonna visit Seattle in a couple months, so I’ll get that one crossed off my list soon.

Everyone should visit Coors before MLB gets a salary cap.
Fingers crossed, this year.

KC - Enough said

Arizona - Like the stadium - we had good seats that were fairly cheap. Nothing overly memorable but a good experience.

Oakland - huge dump - was last year and they clearly were putting no work in to make it worth visiting or an experience

Cubs - Nice experience, sat in their version of the diamond club and was very nice with a great bar area and seating. Would definitely go back.

Cleveland - Standard stadium, nothing really that stood out but enjoyed our seats. We were in upper deck directly behind the plate.

Rockies - Nice stadium, nothing spectacular but one of the better experiences. May have been accentuated by randomly going on the night Ichiro had his 3,000th hit

Houston - Really nice stadium with good food options. Train gives it an interesting feature

Angels - Stadium was fine. Easy to get in and out of. May have been better fan experience if they weren't terrible

Dodgers - pretty dumpy. interesting location but definitely showing it's age

Pirates - beautiful stadium with a great view. Definitely worth a visit.

Padres - stadium was nice, nothing particularly noteworthy but enjoyed the game and experience

Giants - Great view and setting. Sat up in the seats right in front of the home run bay. Despite being a decently warm day it was still crazy cold and windy when sitting.

Mariners - great stadium, seems to have charm despite not being in the best area.

Rays - everyone knows it sucks

Rangers - old stadium, terrible sun location, got burnt to a crisp. Only redemption was getting a Drew Butera home run ball.

Kauffman and Arrowhead and Kemper, and an old downtown arena I cant recall name of where I saw Tennis and basketball at some points, AFH, and KU memorial stadium

The Pond in Anaheim for college BB and hockey

Jack Murphy/Qualcomm in San Diego (a massive dump)

The LA Colliseum (bigger dump)

Staples Center in LA (pretty cool, but way too big for basketball)

Petco (Padres) - good place to see a game, easy to get into/out of (YES, downtown parks can be fun!)

Arizona Cardinals Stadium (enjoyed it)

Arizona Diamondback stadium (meh - pool in outfield was like a pool at a motel 6)

Royals stadium in Surprise AZ for spring training - HIGHLY recommend - great time, great seats, super-affordable.

We smoked weed in the stadium and there was no trouble. LOL Didn't play that well at West Haven Country Club. We missed the cut. But we cruised Rosebud St and went to a strip joint. One of the first times I ever went to a strip joint. I was green on that shit. Springfield didn't have strip joints in those days. I might have went to Royals Stadium once....it's foggy....
Plaster Stadium at what was SMS University. Used to sneak into McDonald Arena and play basketball in the winter and Also went to see the Dare Devils and Nitty Gritty Dirt Band there. On Mushrooms! Hammonds Center, Wieser Gymnasium. Faurot Field. Went to the HS State Basketball Championship way back in the late 60s or early 70s at MU so Hearns Center. Bristol Motor Speedway and Kansas Speedway. Bolivar Speedway. I-44 Speedway. The Fairgrounds Speedway in Springfield, EJ Dome in St Louis watching the Chiefs beat the Rams in a preseason game. Staples Center in Vegas watching the PBR finals.

Not all "ballparks" per se but stadiums and arenas.

Wrigley - Grew up a Cubs fan.
Fenway - Went in 2014, its when I realized that what the Cubs wanted to do with Wrigley was the right thing to do.
White Sox - Blah
Royals - I actually love going to games there, take my kid every year.
Target Field - Nice, but too enclosed for me.
Brewers - For an enclosed stadium, I really like it.
Pittsburg - Awesome stadium, love how it sits in town, baseball team sucks.
Cleveland - When when Jacobs Field was new, thought it was incredible.
Padres - PetCo is nice, don't like how its not all connected, a little chopped up, I like to walk around and check things out.
Washington - Nice park, but thought it would have better sight lines.
San Fran - Probably my favorite. My brother and I take the ferry and can get ripped and sober up before we get back to the car.
Arizona - Not a fan, I don't even like to watch games on TV from there.

Nashville needs a baseball team. Seriously. Move Tampa Bay or something. Game would be awesome there.

Vegas will rock too.

New Yankee Stadium is weird. It’s like aliens made a ballpark based on Yankee fans preferences and it sucks. It’s kinda like a strange high priced mausoleum.

Old Yankee stadium had some character, but again, **** the Jankees.
So Seattle built both T Mobile Park and the Seahawks Stadium next to each other in an area of the city that is very industrial, so both stadiums have an industrial look on the outside. Very cool.

They also sit in a lower area of town and downtown Seattle sits up on a hill out past left field. If you’re in the upper deck like we were and the retractable roof is open, the view of the skyline is awesome, and because the park is low and downtown sits above it, the skyscrapers look massive.

Also, if you go out onto the upper deck concourse and look west you get terrific views of Puget Sound and on a clear day the Olympic Mountains.

I just love Seattle. Great city and the PNW is stunningly beautiful.

Kaufman- many, many games, would love to see a downtown stadium and a village where it stands now
Busch- before the village bet fans are glad its there
Yankee stadium- final year, watched the royals lose a snoozer in 13, bet fans are glad that’s gone.
Anaheim- watched the royals lose a snoozer in 9
Surprise- BWJ’s first yr, homered, excellent fielding, shocked he didn’t start in April.
T-bones- so much fun! Great beer prices
