My Annual "Screw the Chiefs" Mock

This isn't what I think will happen -- this is just me breaking every tie by making a decision that the Chiefs wouldn't like.

[IMG][/IMG]

Still leaves a fair number of solid options out there for us. I went with Scourton there but I could've pushed him up a bit and taken him off our board. I just couldn't really figure a way to do it that didn't free up someone else that I think I liked better.

Okay -- so I was able to make things a little dodgier for us.

I pushed Scourton up to Baltimore and left Pearce on the board (who we won't even consider taking).

Then I had Washington taking Mykel Williams which pushed Buffalo into taking JT Tuimoloau.

That left Hampton, Pearce and Sanders as guys I expect will probably get taken before then still on the board.

So at that point my board is left with Tyleik Williams, Hampton, Zabel, Booker, Landon Jackson, Trey Amos and Henderson.

In short...that's probably a trade-down board. You hope someone wants Sanders and the Eagles are excited enough about Zabel and/or Amos that they're unwilling to move off that 32 spot. Or maybe they want Tyliek to pair with Carter and won't move because they know they'll get him at 32 by staying put if the Chiefs trade back.

Or hell, maybe we just take Hampton or Williams.

But that's about as messy as I could make the board for us.

If it fell like this for us, it might be worth it to get on the phone to Cleveland or New York to see if they would like to move back up into the 1st for Sanders or Dart. It's only a couple of spots back and if we could get a 4th in return we could get fill more holes and have more leverage to target the top 100 guys on their board.

I think Veach would be all over the phones trying to move up for Conerly or Mykel Williams if it fell this way.

Also, I see no world in which both Sanders and Dart fall to round 2.

I'm not quite there with THAT board. I'd be fine with Scourton instead of a move back.

But much beyond that and I'd have to listen. Landon Jackson and Tyleik Williams would be the best DEs and DTs respectively, IMO. There just isn't an OT worth consideration there.

Honestly, my favorite player in that remaining pool is probably Zabel -- I think he's going to be a really good OG. But if you're considering positional value, I think you have to consider CB with Amos, Hariston, Revel or Harrison.

It would be a pretty gross board. I think if things were falling like that you'd have to get on the phone with Washington and look to move up.

Agreed. Like I said -- this isn't what I think will happen. It's just me trying to make the board as ugly as possible with a reasonable eye on what could really take place. It's a thought exercise more than a prediction.

And yes, I think they'd be looking to trade up for Williams in the Washington spot.

I don't think he's moving up to 24 for Conerly though. I don't see it as even being a long-shot. It's not really in my mind at all. Hell, if he went up to 24 on that board, I think he'd take Harmon.

Derrick Harmon at 24? Man. I would try to get him. Worth the trade up cost IMO.

This is a weird year for sure. Every mock I've done ends up with at least 2 guys I'd be comfortable with Veach taking.

I suppose that's a credit to the state of our roster as it relates to this draft class - we're thick where it's thin, and we're thin where it's thick. Good work, Veach!

In a couple scenarios, I've even had trade back options to 33/34 with enough guys on the board I'd be fine with, and those slid our 95 up to like 65 or something. Worth it, IMO.

I think there's too much risk in a trade down from what I'm generally getting to.

Picks 22 through 30 are going to be dick punches left, right and center, IMO. It's gonna feel a lot like the FAU draft.

BUT with the exception being that if all hell broke loose in the FAU draft, there was NOTHING I liked where we picked. Here, there are going to be a couple options I like well enough.

But if we move back to 34, those options may be gone as well. And for a nominal improvement in the 3rd round, that's almost certainly going to be more risk than I'm eager to take.

I look at every mock as a thought exercise. None will be perfect, and this one isn't wholly unreasonable, sans maybe projecting Simmons to Pittsburgh after they took OTs in back-to-back 1st rounds with Jones and Fautanu.

Say Carolina called and offered #8 for McDuffie.

Make that deal?

That would be lofty. The only CBs I ever recall being traded for 1st round picks are Revis and Ramsey. Revis netted a 13th overall and a 4th, and Ramsey two future 1s (ended up 20th and 25th) and a 4th.

So, for starters, yeah you'd take that deal.

Even if Campbell and Membou were off the board, I could find a really good use for the #8 overall pick. If it happened pre-draft... I'd sure try to temp the Giants with #8 and #31 for #3 to get Abdul Carter.

Yeah, I did that with the thought that they don't really seem to love Jones and could see Simmons as an intriguing option to redshirt behind him for a season before potentially taking over for him.

I mean they don't have a QB. Which means 1 of two things -- they could reach for Sanders or Dart. Or it could mean that they're willing to sacrifice this season, maybe take someone like Shough or McCord a little later and see if he develops while trying to build around a potential QB pick the following season.

They're a tough team to figure.

In a vacuum, I would.

The problem is that it makes competing next season -- Kelce's last and potentially the last dominant Jones season you'll see -- quite a bit more difficult.

I mean I guess it would open you up to taking someone like Nolen at 8 and then Amos at 31. I love Revel and Morrison but they're risker than Amos, IMO. And you can't miss with that pick if you move McDuffie. Maybe you go with Hairston to try to get a little more ceiling with a little less floor than the other two guys.

Or hell, maybe you just take Warren there. I probably would at that point. I can't talk myself into Banks there if I moved McDuffie - giving up too much near term production for a guy who may not start next season (similar issue with Warren).

It might just be too much near term risk for me to get behind it. This window is closing -- I think we owe it to Kelce and Jones to continue efforts to maximize it.

They like Harmon from everything I've seen. They need an upgrade over Loudermilk in the worst way, and Heyward is 35 years old. I can't see them passing on an upgrade at DE.

I think I had them taking Shemar Stewart and having him bulk back up to 290 in my mock.
