Searched around & only found the video fishing & BassMasters threads, i know their are plenty of outdoorsman here, so i figured it'd be cool to draw upon the Planets vast experience in all things fishing.

I only use spincast reels & fish mostly large/smallmouth bass & cats. My choice of reels is quite the source of derision from many people i know 'duffer gear', but i haul in my share of 6 pound bass & 10-20 pound cats on that gear no problem. With a little know-how you can use just about any technique you want to on 'duffer gear'.

Berkley Powerbaits are a big part of my trick bag, the difference between those & regular stuff is night & day. My best action last summer came on Mister Twister scented white curly tail grubs, on one day fishing from shore to a bridge pier, i caught smallies, bigmouths, perch & even 1 carp believe it or not... great day. But my bread & butter is a texas rigged Berkley worm, it'll wiggle through any kind of cover without getting hung up.

With cats i strictly bottom fish, no bobber & bait is just as basic... but its always in 2's to give'em a real treat... a shrimp/with a nightcrawler, liver/chunk of cheese etc. Cats are mostly for night sport to me, time to kick back a lil...

So thats me style, how do the rest of you guys get your fish on? What do you fish for, what do you use? IIRC Missouri's trout season just kicked off, anyone getting anything?

I'll be getting out to Buena Vista to fish the Arkansas in a few weeks, then the week after that we're going to Gunnison for 5 days to hit the Taylor.

My parents are coming out in June and we will likely go to the bottom of the black canyon to catch big dumb browns before heading to Ouray to fish the Puk Puk.

I have a neighbor who she’s a fish farm/sells fish for stocking ponds.
People sometimes order trout for ponds for ice fishing. They taste better in winter/spring but apparently die when water gets above 68.

Someone who ordered backed out. They didn’t have room to keep and knew they’d die so asked me if I wanted them. Why not.

I figure we have 2 months. They’re early aggressive and do t seem to hard to catch right now on small spinners. They fight surprisingly hard too.

Visiting a friend in angelfire NM we did some lake fishing for rainbows.

He used a light spinning rig with a small treble using Berkley power bait. I think it was a simple lindy rig and the powerbait floats, so it would float off the bottom. They were pretty tasty on the grill in foil.

I love the Taylor and Black Canyon. Great waters and beautiful everywhere. I imagine water levels have to be high? I was thinking that area got some good snow this year.

Have you fished the northwest side? That bank gets the first and most sun in the spring.

Also, I’d work between 8-20 feet. Vertical jig or similar slow action technique. Fish probably aren’t shallow yet.

The Gunnison watershed is right at 100% of it's snow pack, so it should be a solid run off, but nothing spectacular.

I really don't mind fishing through runoff too much. It keeps a lot of people off the river and the fish still have to eat.

The Taylor will probably get its first spring bump on April 1, but I'll probably spend some time up on Cochetopa Creek and fishing the Gunnison as well.

Three dead, three injured in boating crash during fishing tournament on Smith Lake

CULLMAN, Ala. (WBMA) — Three people are dead and another three are injured after a multi-boat crash on Smith Lake Wednesday morning during a Major League Fishing tournament.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) identified one of the people killed as an Altoona man.

ALEA said 58-year-old Joey M. Broom was fatally injured when the Center Console vessel he was onboard was struck by a Nitro Bass Boat. Broom was pronounced dead at the scene.

44-year-old John K. Clark, of Cullman and Mississippi man 62-year-old Jeffrey C. Little were also both onboard the Center Console vessel. ALEA said the two were thrown overboard during the incident and drowned. Their bodies were recovered later.

The crash occurred near the Miller Flats area of Smith Lake in Cullman County.

ABC 33/40 observed at least one EMS helicopter flying near the scene.

ALEA said the crash resulted in multiple injuries and troopers are currently on scene investigating.

ALEA is also requesting that individuals avoid the immediate crash area as investigators along with other first responders continue to process the scene.

According to MajorLeagueFishing.com, the Tackle Warehouse Invitational was underway.

MLF released the following statement:

Major League Fishing (MLF) confirms that a serious boating accident occurred this morning on Lewis Smith Lake during Day 2 of the Tackle Warehouse Invitational. The incident involved one of the event’s competing anglers, Flint Davis of Leesburg, Georgia.

Emergency personnel and local authorities responded immediately and remain on scene managing the situation.

Out of respect for those involved, and to ensure the accuracy of all information, no further details will be released at this time. MLF is working closely with law enforcement and emergency officials. Additional updates will be provided as they are confirmed by the appropriate authorities.

Our thoughts, prayers and deepest concern are with everyone affected by this tragic incident.

Davis also released a brief statement on his social media account, " I want to thank everyone for the thoughts and prayers. I ask that you keep me and all of the other affected people and families in your prayers. I'll let you guys know more when I can."

MLF later announced it will forgo the final day of the tournament due to the incident, which was scheduled for Thursday, April 17.

The Cullman County Tourism Bureau also released a statement.

The Cullman County Tourism Bureau extends our heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones affected by the tragic accident that occurred on Smith Lake this morning.

Smith Lake is a cherished destination for both locals and visitors, and this incident has deeply impacted our entire community. We are grateful for the swift and dedicated response of our emergency personnel. We remain committed to supporting our community however we can.

Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone touched by this tragedy. Jeff Tolbert as Chairman.

I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often

My local lake has a tourney every weekend during warm months, and they all fly like hell going from one planned out spot to another while racing against the clock... they really get aggressive
