I think there is a non-zero chance they started the Rust Belt version of the Curse of the Bambino.

They were pretty cursed to start with, but my GOD what the Jesus Christ were they doing? I've contended from the beginning Baker is good enough to win some games and then make some noise in the playoffs. There is some comparison to Alex, but I don't think that's appropriate.
