Auto Insurance driving surveillance

Do you have a program on your phone?

We used to have a program, drivewise, with our old company, that was supposed to give us an annual 10% discount, but it seldom worked consequently we didn't receive the discount most of the time.

However, our new insurance company has one called Intellidrive that is incredibly accurate and rates each trip in five categories. Hard Braking, Acceleration, High Speed, Time of Day and Distraction.

I personally think it is great as if someone is on their phone, it will log it.

One time I pushed the button to decline an incoming call while driving and it caught it. Yesterday, I hadn't had the Challenger out for a couple months and blew the cobbs out leaving a stop light and it caught it.

I know this is a slippery slope, but I can see some benefits reducing the people constantly on their phone while driving. That problem is out of hand and in my opinion, something needs to be done.

What say you?

Also, it doesn't activate until continuous movement at driving speeds is detected.
She had to call her insurance agent about two instances in the same morning where it logged 5 over in town. I was driving both times. She wasn't even in the car the 2nd time but her phone was.

I am finding it interesting that these programs are all so different. The one I had with the other company was horrible, but this one seems much more evolved.

I drive about 5 over all the time and have not triggered an "event" for speeding yet. It has me graded as "great" on Hight Speed, the only thing better is "Excellent" for my overall rating along with time of day and distraction and the next step down is "good" for my acceleration rating.

I think I have one more day of this and it is going bye bye.

The best one is even better.

The app apparently uses location info on the phone from other apps like maps. She got dinged for going 45 in a 30. I know for a fact that the entire road she was on is 45 and it's posted (I now have pictures).

When I plug that route into Google maps, and t shows 45 the whole way. In Apple maps, about a 1/4 mile is marked 30, which is wrong.

I received a message this morning that my 90 day program is over and the results will be reflected in my insurance renewal. I am no longer being monitored and can remove the program from my phone.

This makes me very happy and glad it is over.

Well as it turned out, I received an excellent score and my rate went down just over $60. I was expecting a bigger reduction, but hey.

I still have a bad taste in my mouth from having to plug a unit into the OBDII port of a company truck that I used to work for. All the sales guys had to do it and the thing would flag anything that it deemed to be unexceptionable driving habits. In my part of the world, highways are wide open with not much traffic and everything is a long ways away. If you want to get anything done, you have to put the coal to it at times. I was like hmm, this thing looks defective. It turns out 2 seconds in a microwave takes care of most undesirable electronics. My company was slow to react to about anything, so it took them 5 months to get me a new one.

Every Monday morning we had a company Teams meeting and the boss would start the meeting going over everyone's infractions for the previous week. Always set the tone for a great meeting.

My biggest problem was, I would get infractions for not having a seat belt on. I was like WTF, I always wear my seat belt. I tuned out I was getting nailed in hotel parking lots. I always buckled up just before I hit the main road, but was getting nailed in the fricken parking lot.

Fast forward, I was riding with my boss and saw what I called "the big brother 1000" fall out and hit the floor. It didn't have a real tight fit, so it was always working itself loose. He saw it happen so I chimed in with, that happens all the time with this POS. I would reach down and unplug it, if I knew I was going to have to pass on a two lane. A lot of times in order to pass a couple of big rigs, I would have to floor it to get by in time resulting in hitting a 100 plus for a brief moment. I did the same thing on long road trips. If I'm driving 500-600 miles a day with a few cars on the highway, I would get after it. Not crazy crazy, but always over the limit.

Bottom line, I'm not going to have a microscope voluntarily shoved up my ass if I don't have to.

I get it. If I would have known it was going to only be a 7 percent savings I would have passed as well.
I was expecting at least 25 percent.
Had 3 infractions in 90 days.
1) hitting the decline call on a spam call, this distracted driving
2) hard braking for a deer
3) Couldn't resist on day hammering the the Challenger getting to the speed limit ASAP
