Sitting in the hospital waiting for surgery tomorrow morning...

I won't go into great detail here so as not to bore everyone..I am sitting in this hospital bed waiting for the impending surgery tomorrow morning. While in theory it is supposed to be non-critical and more exploratory I would still appreciate prayers and thoughts.

I've battled vertigo off and on for about 8 years now. I wouldnt wish it on my worst enemy.

Vision therapy and balance therapy helps you get back to your baseline, for sure.

I've also read that taking vitamin D supplements can help keep vertigo from recurring.

godspeed......vertigo sucks big time.

EDIT: Do the exercises until you can't take it, and try to use meclizine as little as possible, as using meclizine dulls the senses and doesnt help your vision/balance rehab as quickly.

Yeah I stopped taking meclizine when I got a Zofran script but I only use that when I'm really nauseous. Otherwise I'm just trying to power through it.

My Father, 87 years old, takes Valium for his vertigo. He says it helps. Baffles me though.

It's a controlled substance. No medical doctor around here is going to prescribe Valium for vertigo unless it's a really unique case.

In fact, the only thing they offer is Zofran, which is an anti-nauseau medication. Treatment for vertigo is physical therapy. My guess is your father's age is why they gave it to him.

I don't have a problem with the crystals, they're not misaligned. So the true cause of my issue is still unknown. They're saying now it's an irritation of the vestibular nerve and they gave me some exercises to "train my brain to compensate".

Sure seemed to me like a bunch of guesswork bullshit, which has happened with every doctor I've seen the past two weeks.

Needless to say, I'm pretty frustrated right now.

EXACTLY what happened to me. Keep your spirits up, PT is working wonders for me. Some of the exercises I think, "That's gonna be easy" (or hard) and it turns exactly the opposite. Some seem silly, just do them. I do about twice what they require. I want this shit fixed! I couldn't even stand heel to toe for 10 seconds! Didn't even last 5 seconds. Now I can do 10 and am working on doing it with my eyes closed or turning my head right to left. Walking backwards turning my head right to left is still challenging.
