Yeah, an employee of mine left to go to work at a startup that made him big promises to sell ear tags to feedyards.
He was pretty excited about getting in on the ground floor and stock options when they go public and shit. I asked if they got VC money he didn't think to ask that. They wouldn't even tell him much about the functionality of what he was supposed to be selling. He acknowledged there was some risk. I didn't have the heart to tell him I've seen a lot of that kind of song and dance before. |

Heh. Apparently during the Robinhood earnings call, they disclosed their earnings from type of instruments traded. Apparently about 10% of transactions are equities and a few percent bonds. The rest is crypto and options.
Holy shit. Are they just full of gamblers? I barely know anyone that trades crypto and far fewer that understand options much less trade them. That’s shocking. I’d be interested to know their overall asset holdings in their accounts, maybe there are fewer but larger transactions in ETFs or something but my god. |

Not a Robinhood user so I'm curious what policies and regulations they have that are different from other trading firms. I'd imagine a great many of these apps make a sizeable chunk of their money off options traders.

Funny thing is that the instant options BP is what led to them almost having to shut down during the GameStop squeeze 4 years ago. People were just making accounts and able to buy options on collateral same day which led to Robinhood being over collateralized. It's really perfect, a degen platform for degen "traders". I'll even throw some play money on it for some quick options every once in a while. I don't touch options on my main fidelity account. |

I don't know much about Robinhood, but my impression of it has been that, being newer, it has a young client base, and those folks are going to be more interested in crypto and possibly in other get-rich-quick topics. It doesn't really surprise me that they're used less than other services for traditional stock investing.

Really glad I did not buy Tesla with the extra cash I had. I’m just gonna throw it into FZROX. S&P will always go up
